Its a healthy diet for a dog:
Rice (easier to digest than corn which is in most dog foods)
Veggies (cooked well,,preferably no salt peas)
Boiled boneless chicken,,beef or liver (if desired for flavor)
Cool completely before serving.
~We make a potful,,put in small bowls,,cool & refriderate.
Remove from fridge,,warm slightly,,bring to room tempurature,,feed pet.
~This was recommended by a good vet for my dogs. One inperticular that was born without a pancreus,,he lived a long healthy life & had energy to the end.
~It also is good because it doesnt contain salt/fat/dyes or additives.
I've raised over 60 dogs in the past & own 15 now.

It is a good idea to add a multi dog vitamin to your dogs diet also.

Necks are the worst bone to feed a dog,,sorry.Never feed a dog bones. They can splinter & be fatal. They puncture the trake,,intestines,,colon,,stomach etc.Rawhide chewies are best. The bones that dont splinter will wear down a dogs teeth & cause dental problems.

The best way to feed is raw. My vet, who has been breeding German Shepherds for 31 years, recommends raw feeding as well. If you are going to feed cooked food you might as well go for one of the holistic foods out now, they are preservative and filler free. Why go to the trouble of cooking when there are some really good dogs foods on the market that are balanced and contain all necessary vitamins and minerals unlike the recipe you have provided.
Also that home made diet can not be good for a dog if you are only using a small amount of meat for flavoring dogs need the protein that comes from meat.
EDIT: that is a misconception and most dogs fed raw foods are getting the same foods that you would feed your own family. I suppose you think that if a dog taste blood it will want to eat people or is more likely to be aggressive, OMG please. I feed raw and have been doing so for years and my 2 gsd's are registered therapy dogs with TDI and they have never bitten anyone.

I worry about the diet you are suggesting since it doesn't contain any calcium in it. You are also misinformed when it comes to feeding dogs raw meat. Why do you say the neck is the worst part? Have you seen the bones in the neck? They are like honeycombs and are nowhere near as sharp as the other bones when broken. And what evidence do you have to back up your claim about dogs getting the taste of blood? As for rawhides, they are dangerous. Rawhide chews have been known to create blockages in dogs.

My only complaint about this recipe is that it appears to be lacking in calcium and possibly other vitamins/minerals. It is imperative to provide all the essential amino acids and also enough fatty acids in a dog's diet, as well as a proper calcium/phosphorous ratio. It is possible to do this with a homemade diet, but anyone considering this PLEASE consult your veterinarian first, who will help you (and may refer you to a nutritionist) because you can't just throw together something and call it a complete and balanced diet.
I agree about raw diets--I just don't think they are worth the risk. Cook the meat, for goodness sakes.

Out of the many dogs I have had they have all eaten raw meat. Think about it most hunting dogs used for hunting taste blood. Most dogs weell kill small things to eat anyway. I worked for vets that fed their dogs with raw meat. I have not had a dog died that wasunder 15 years old and the oldest died at 24.

Sounds like your passion for dogs is great! And you can afford to feed them which is very good.

I have 2 at the moment. I have to cook for them everyday. I cook chicken neck and backs with rice which they totally love. Sometimes I use liver.

I should try to cook enough to last more than just a day. Thanks for the advice.
