My doc perscibed nasonex for my allergies. i often get headaches, and seem to have constant sinus pressure, however it used to be much worse, i would call it easily bareable now. I'm really creepied out by sticking something in my nose, not to mention actually squirting something up there.. so my question is, have you used nasonex, what were your experiences with it, and what would you say is your overall opinion towards the spray versus other allergy treatments?

thanks!!

I have taken zyrtec in the past, but would prefer not to take an allergy pill for theincreased risk of heart palpatations.

yes i have used that, and many others for my breathing, but i still fine the best thing to use is good ole saline soulution, cause the ones you get from the doctor, well when you go off of them, then you will fine that it is harder then ever to breath, cause you get use to using that, and it takes a really long time after you are off of it to get back to any kind of normal. I also like to use Arry stick, it is a mentol, but it is not habbit forming, and it clears you right up.

I too was prescribed nasonex for rather severe allergies. I felt that it worked fairly well for about 1-3 weeks. Then, one day, I was well, squirting away as directed when I began to cough. The result was that I accidentally aspirated the medicine into my lungs. This in turn resulted in one of the worse coughing fits ever - followed a day later with a very serious lung infection.

It helped the allergies but I will never trust a medicine that can go that wrong that easily again.

Ive used it. Its ok but I will tell you two things better, much better. These were prescribed by my ENT for serious sinus problems and intense sinus headaches brought on by allergies. Zyrtec as an allergy preventative. Take it every day even if you are not having symptoms, especially if you are not having symptoms as it is a preventative. Secondly and most effective is guaifenesin. I took 2 600mg tablets twice a day. It will relieve a sinus headache quickly. Drink lots of fluids with this one as it uses it to loosen everyting up in your head. Its fantastic stuff.
By the way guaifenesin is primarily used as an expectorant and does a great job keeping your chest clear as well. Ive not had a sinus headache in years. They used to be so bad I would wind up in the ER.
Singulair is an alternative to zyrtec and may be safer to take. The guaifenesin by itself is sufficient. The docs had prescribed this for me before but never in a strong enough dose. The ENT put me at 2400mg per day and that made all the difference in the world. It is marketed over the counter as mucinex and many generic names. DO NOt USE mucinex D. It will raise your blood pressure.

I am the same way. Cannot stand squirting something up my nose. But I have had to use the nasonex before and of all the thing you could have to do this is the best in my opionion.

I have no problem with nasal sprays, most of them work good, and help me to breath again. But Nasonex does not work for me at all. I like Flonase or Beconase, they both work good. Ask your doctor about them. Astelin is okay, but not as good as Flonase or Beconase.
