I'm getting a yorkie soon and she is only 3 months old. I want to know how much I would need to spend on a puppy each month including vet check ups, food, etc. This is my first dog that I actually have to take care & pay for on my own so help me out! I live in L.A., I don't know if that makes a difference.

Please do not get a dog if you cannot afford one. Puppies get 3 shots every 3 weeks the first ones are about $30-$45. The second ones are about $50-$80. The third ones are about $20-$30. Good quality food is about $15 a bag depending on the size of the bag. Yorkie need to get groomed ever so often but I am not sure how much that costs. Getting the Yorkie fixed (YOU WILL SERIOUSLY NEED TO DO THAT) will be about $80-$100. Good luck but if you cannot afford this then please do not get a dog. Dogs are like babies...they cost AL-OT to have. Yorkies are one of the most expensive dogs to own because or some or their special needs such as grooming visits.

Check and see if there is a clinic at one of the petstores in the area. You can normally get shots for about 15$.

I have a Lhasa and I groom her every 3-4 months. It costs about 50$.

I feed a combination of dry and wet food. 1 large can lasts me a week and a 50 lb. bag of dog food lasts for months.

At 3 months she should have a lot of her shots already and should have been dewormed. You will still need to get rabies and distemper vacc. and get her spayed. My dog is extremely sensitive to meds and had extra tests, it cost me about $120. I live in MI though- the cost of living is a lot less out here.

Honestly- the first couple months I has Sadie I spent more on toys then anything else. I liked to spoil here.

Hope that helps! Have fun with your new baby!

The first year is the most expensive since will need shots and de worming and to be fixed. After that some vaccines are annually but they arent expensive. I only feed my dogs quality food so I buy it at the pet store like petco, foods from the market are crap. I use eukenuba all natural lamb and rice, but ask your vet what they recommend. Also ask about advantage for fleas in the summer. She is small so you should not have huge food expenses and $30.00 for grooming every 6-8 wks. Good luck and Congrats

It depends, dog food can range from 15-30 dollars (med size bag), grooming will cost about 30 dollars unless you do it yourself. Vet check could cost about 60 dollars, dog crate, bed, bowls, leash and pee pads can cost about 120-200. The first year for puppy could be expensive because they require regular shot every 3 weeks, training materials like pee pads, cleaner, and bed could be quite costly. try to train your dog right away and that can help lower the future cost. Good luck.

Find a good Vet and ask what the shots will be. I suggest when the pup gets old enough you have it mico chipped - it costs about $45.

Eukanuba is good food also Solid Gold. You get Solid Gold at a Pet Shop.

that is impossible to say. my full blood toy poodle was perfect until he was 8 months old. then he developed a bone disease, had surgery, developed liver damage from meds. then another surgery. he is now ten months old. my total just since Jan. 2, 2007 till today is $3,246.00. So, be prepared or have plastic like i had to use. i was too in love with him to let him suffer or 'get rid' of him. it's not over yet, either.
