They want their children to be good citizens (by this I mean respectful law, abiding etc). ( I would guess that ALL parents want this for their kids but the difference between the good and bad parents is that the good ones assist their children by giving them the tools to do so).
GOod parents model good behavior for their children to emulate.
Bad parents (over simplified here) are more of the "dont do as I do, do as I say" philosophy

Above all, I want my children to love the Lord and serve Him to the best of their abilities. Second only to that, I want them to love the people they share this world with and to have compassion for every person they meet.

My philosophy is that success and fulfillment in life can be narrowed down to a simple formula:

To be successful on their own without needing their constant attention and help... In other words, believers are needy children that don't grow up...the non believers were successful in that...
