i want to go and get a dog this week. I looked on recycler, and saw some great deals. I saw an englis bulldog 8 weeks with all vaccinations for around 400. Then i saw a boxer that is a month old for around 400 as well. BTW, both are purebreed. I wanted to know which one is a better dog with less problems, shedding hair, etc. Moreover, becuase i am not experienced with picking dogs, i would like to know some tips on finding a healthy dog.
Thank you for any help...

i would go with a boxer they are wonderful dogs to own. they don't shed hair all that bad but what animal don't shed. they are also a kid dog so if you have kids they are great. but over all they really don't have problems. if the english bull dog is purebreed and is 400 bucks there is something wrong there. the sell for much higher then that. and for the boxer thats about the price for them. there might be something wrong with the bull dog since it's going for that price. plus they don't live long either about 7 years. had boxers when i was a kid and brother owns 2 of them and no problems with them. good luck on your pick of dog hope that helped you! also you can have problems with any animals that you get. adn with a boxer you don't have to get there ears cut so that there in a point. and they shouldn't have a tail but a little nub.

I have two pure bred boxers...a fawn colored (all brown with some white marking called "flash" and a black mask, which is his face). He barely sheds at all, even in the spring. My other boxer is white...which is technically a genetic defect and therefore not paperable according to the AKC. She sheds like crazy and can't be in the sun very much or she'll get a burn.
Boxers are very very energetic! They love to play and remain very puppylike in that way until well into their life span. My famale is 5 years old and still acts like she did as a 1 year old. They LOVE affection and human companionship. If you do not have a lot of time to give them in training and companionship they probably aren't the breed for you. Also, due to their energy it would be good if you had a fenced in yard or a park where you could take them on frequent, long walks or they might end up chewing things you don't want them to out of boredom.
As far as choosing a healthy dog....you want to make sure they are the appropriate weight for their size, check their teeth...the younger they are the cleaner they should be...rotten teeth give off a nasty smell. Also, ask about their "potty" habits...I don't mean if they are house trained. I mean how frequently do they have to go both #1 and #2. Too much and too little is not okay. Ask about their vaccinations, etc. and ask about their dispositions in general. My dogs get irritable when they are under the weather. Hope this helps.

Boxers are very fun and sweet. They are rough and tough. They can handle stuff. I do think the Bulldog is a scam. Boxers are very fun and energetic. I love them a lot (hang out with two regulary). I have never met a good bulldog and I never really liked bulldogs either. It's up to you. I would visit/talk to the people selling them. Then go with your gut feeling. Whoever responds to your calls or letters is probably really organized and serious about selling the dog.
Personally I would pick a Boxer. It's up to you.

I don't think that the way to choose a puppy is by the price. A boxer and a bulldog are completely separate breeds that have completely separate personalities. A boxer will be a bit hyper and want to play...all the time. Bulldogs are prone to problems with their skin folds as well as their tails. I think you should do a lot more research before buying a puppy.

I would bet money that the Bulldog ad is a scam. They will have you send them a money order for the cost of shipping, and you will never receive a pup. Plus, if you did really get a $400 Bulldog puppy you will probably spend a bunch on vet bills due to health problems from poor breeding.
Because of that, I would go with the Boxer. They are generally healthier anyway.

I actually just had to choose between an English Bulldog or a Boxer and I picked the Boxer. They are VERY energetic and needs lots of exercise room. I love her to death...I also found a bulldog for only $500, all I had to do was send a Western Union to Africa and they would mail her right over to me!! :)

It depends on what your lifestyle is like. Boxers are full of energy and need alot of exercise, bulldogs on the other hand dont need quite as much. If you dont have much time or space to take your dog out for a walk you should consider another breed.
Buying a dog is something you dont want to rush into as it is a huge responsibility. Take your time and do a bit of homework on the breed and make sure you are able to support the dog financially.

I am a boxer owner and they are fantastic dogs, they are smart and sweet and very friendly. They shed about twice a year they but, they are active and do require exercise they are heat/cold sensitive so I suggest they sleep indoors. They are very loyal loving dogs. They are prone to cancer and you need to know that upfront, I lost one of mine and it was devastating! I highly recommend boxers but I would read up on the breed before purchasing. English bulldogs are great as well but they have a very short life span 7 years is the average I am pretty sure and they do have breathing issues and snore like a lumber jack but they are very sweet and adorable my friend has 2 and they are gr

English bull dogs have alot of health problems, they usually have to have surgery for their nasal cavities because they can't breath very well and when they exercise they can become over heated and die. It's very expensive and not really necessary, I would recommend adopting a boxer mix puppy from a shelter, they make better pets, because they have less health problems then a pure-breed. Boxers are known to get cancer easily.
