Dogs don't actually catch colds. If by cold you mean that your dog is coughing loudly/uncontrollably, then he/she may have bordetella ("canine cough"). In most cases, this is not serious, but just like colds in humans, it has the potential to turn into pneumonia. Best bet is to see your vet. He/she may prescribe antibiotics and/or a cough suppressant, or he/she may just tell you to let it ride it's course (as long as appetite/activity level is not suffering, then things should be fine).

Well, you need to take him to a vet if you think its severe. But untill then to make him feel better, you should try and get him to eat.
-Take some sort of chicken ( wings, breast, thigh, organs ect ect), 1 clove of garlic, half a carrot, half a celery stick, and small hand full of rice or pasta. First boil the chicken in about 3-4 cups of water ( if too much, drain, should be enough to fill a water bottle), and veggies until it makes a broth and chicken is done, and veggies are soft, add the pasta/rice. When the pasta/rice is done. let it cool for about 20 minutes, and take out the celery, carrot, and garlic. And mash them all in a bowl, and put back in the broth so your doggie can eat it alot easier.
Also, when the chicken is done, and if it has bone in it, take the meat off, and get rid of the bone.
This will make your doggie feel better, and keep him healthy and try and make him better.
The broth is to hydrate him and give him pre-broken down vitamins and minerals from the chicken and veggies, and fill him up. And the pasta and rice is to make sure he getting calories, and keep him from losing weight, and being unhealthy.
Please try and feed this to him, if he doesnt want to eat it, really try for a couple of hours, bc sometimes they may simply not want to eat right away, and if not, try putting the broth in his mouth with a spoon, and he willmore than likley drink it because its there. If he does eat it, and likes it give him more as much as he wants bc its really good for him. But watch out, and make sure he dosent get any diahrea, if he does, increse the water bc he may be sensive to all the natural salt from the chicken. Or dont feed him at all, and immeadiatly take him to a vet bc theres no means that hes going to get better very soon. But take him anyway. He may have an at-home-untreatable virus. But the Recipe i gave you should make him a less lethargic, and anemic.
Please take him to a vet if its severe!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dogs don't get "Colds" like we do.
I would suggest seeing a vet as your dog may have bordetella or parainfluenza and if this is the case he needs antibiotics. Or he could have allergies and needs an antihistamine with steriod.
You can try using humidified air to help clear the nasal passages.

You can use a saline solution for infants for nasal congestion. However if the dog is wheezing or showing any difficulty with breathing go to your vet. Your dog may have a respiratory infection, bronchitis or pneumonia for which antibiotics will be needed.

you can give a dog childrens benadryl to help with some of the symtoms but you need to be really careful with this you should go to your local pet strore and see if they have an at home pet care book that can give you alternatives other than going to the vet
