Why don't you start by telling us why they SHOULD buy you a cell phone? You've given us two reasons that they shouldn't (no sports, you walk home), and one justification (finances).

Do you really feel that you are ready for the responsibility? There are different types of calling plans available, depending on your service carrier, that allow you a certain number of minutes a month under certain conditions. Make sure you research those plans very well and have an answer for your parents when they ask if you are ready for the responsibility.

The more you demonstrate that you know about cell phone use (specifically, what happens when you exceed the minutes on your plan and what you intend to do if it happens), the more mature you will appear. Would you agree if they demanded you give up the phone until you pay or work off the high bill?

Ask yourself why you want one to begin with; telling them "I need it" or "All my friends have them" won't work.

Why do you want a cell phone so bad? I think if you have some legit reasons then it will be easy to persuade your parents to buy you a phone. Mabye you need to do something to show your parents that you're mature enought to own a cell. Also are you planning on paying the $40 yourself? If so this will help your argument, if you're not planning on paying yourself, you should consider doing some chores or something to prove to your parents that you're worthy :) Good luck

At thirteen years old, you really don't need a cell phone. Why does everyone think they have to be on the phone all the time? Wait a few years and you can earn enough money to pay for it each month.

Consider your reason first for having a cellphone. You mom and dad might have thought that it isn't really a necessity at all... just a want and that's not gonna make them relent to that. There are many advantages into owning one. Maybe it isn't just the right time for cellphone and if that's the case, you really will not convince them.

Want to know how? By proving to them you're responsible enough for one. That if they can't pay for it you'll step up and pay the bill.
