What are the signs and symptoms of keloids?
Keloids are raised and look shiny and dome-shaped, ranging in color from pink to red. Some keloids become quite large and unsightly. Aside from causing potential cosmetic problems, these exuberant scars tend to be itchy, tender, or even painful to the touch.
The methods now available to treat keloids are:
Cortisone injections (intralesional steroids):
This is safe and not very painful. Injections are usually given once per month until the maximum benefit is obtained. Injections are safe (very little steroid gets into the body) and usually help flatten keloids; however, steroid injections can also make the flattened keloid redder by stimulating the formation of more superficial blood vessels. (These can be treated using a laser; see below.) The keloid may look better after treatment than it looked to start with, but even the best results leave a mark that looks and feels quite different from surrounding skin. For more, please read the Cortisone Injection article.
Surgery:
This is risky, because cutting a keloid can trigger the formation of a similar or even larger keloid. Some surgeons achieve success by injecting steroids or applying pressure dressings to the wound site after cutting away the keloid. Radiation after surgical excision has also been used.
Laser:
The pulsed-dye laser can be effective at flattening keloids and making them look less red. Treatment is safe and not very painful, but several treatment sessions may be needed.
Silicone sheets: This involves wearing a sheet of silicone gel on the affected area for several hours a day for weeks or months, which is hard to sustain. Results are variable. Some doctors claim similar success with compression dressings made from materials other than silicone.
Cryotherapy:
Freezing keloids with liquid nitrogen may flatten them, but often darkens the site of treatment.
Interferon:
Interferons are proteins produced by our immune systems which help fight off viruses, bacteria, and other challenges. In recent studies, injections of interferon have shown promise in reducing the size of keloids, though it's not yet certain whether that effect will be lasting. Current research is underway using a variant of this method, applying topical imiquimod (Aldara), which stimulates the body to produce interferon.
Fluorouracil:
Injections of this chemotherapy agent, alone or together with steroids, have been used as well for treatment of keloids.
It makes sense, for someone who has formed one keloid to avoid any elective surgery or piercing, especially in body areas prone to scarring.

Ok soo first let me say that the only way to get a keloid anywhere is to have a history of the skin problem. So if you have gotten pervious tattoos , piercings ect. and they have healed properly then you have nothing to worry about.
Next you need to understand what a keloid is , a keloid is extra scar tissue that forms on the body after healing. its is solid piece of flesh( not like a pimple , or a blister) so you can not pop it. there is no cure foe this skin condition , but there is treatments like surgery followed by steroid injections , and just being carful not to get to cut or scratched up. also avoid all and any tattoos, and piecing. (sorry)
Now on a brighter note i'm going to say that I have keloid skin ,iv been dealing with it ever since I was little . I got my ears pierced when I was little and when I was a kid and both times I got keloids but two of them I got treatment for so I only have 2 on my ears. I also have 4 very little ones on my chest, and one on my back from being cut. so I have a total of 7 keloids , HOWEVER mines were very small . so its important to understand that if you do have keloid skin try to understand if your case is aggressive or not . In my case I have the condition but its not aggressive because mine do not get big at all.
Now lastly I actually do have a tongue ring !!! I got mines 3 weeks ago , I took a shot in the just because I wanted one . So just know that you can read all you want about the risks but if you want one you'll get one lol, So I got mines and I did not get a keloid on my tongue. it healed 100% normal with no problems . and if your reading this and you have keloid skin and have been searching to read these words then look again I HAVE KELOID SKIN AND WHEN I GOT MY TONGUE RING I DID NOT GET A KELOID. :))))))))) so go ahead take a shot in the dark because no matter what its really a 50/50 % chance. Good luck

A keloid is a raised scar so there's really nothing you can do. It might go away on it's own, but will take some time. I'm sure if it really bothering you then you can get it surgically removed. As for injections, you don't need any.

ok soo first enable me say that the merely thanks to get a keloid everywhere is to have a historic previous of the exterior problem. So once you're growing pervious tattoos , piercings ect. and they have healed proper then you definately do not have any more something to rigidity about. next you opt for to appreciate what a keloid is , a keloid is larger scar tissue that varieties on the body after healing. its is reliable piece of flesh( unlike a pimple , or a blister) so that you may't pop it. there is no treatment foe this epidermis problem , yet there is remedies like surgical procedure stated via steroid injections , and merely being carful no longer to get to reduce or scratched up. also stay away from all and any tattoos, and piecing. (sorry) Now on a brighter word i am going to assert that I easily have keloid epidermis ,iv been coping with it ever considering i become little . I were given my ears pierced even as i become little or perhaps as i turned right into a baby and both cases I were given keloids yet 2 of them I were given treatment for therefore I merely have 2 on my ears. I actually have 4 very toddlers on my chest, and one on my decrease back from being reduce. so I easily have a finished of seven keloids , although mines were very small . so its major to appreciate that in case you do have keloid epidermis attempt to appreciate in case your case is aggressive or no longer . In my case I easily have the priority yet its no longer aggressive because mine do not get large in any respect. Now finally i in my opinion do have a tongue ring !!! I were given mines 3 weeks in the past , I took a shot contained in the merely because i wanted one . So merely understand that you'll study all you opt for about the risks yet in case you opt for one you receives one lol, So I were given mines and that i did not get a keloid on my tongue. it healed one hundred% everyday with out complications . and in case your studying this and also you've keloid epidermis and performance been searching to study those words then look back I easily have KELOID epidermis AND when I were given MY TONGUE RING i did not GET A KELOID. :))))))))) so bypass ahead take a shot contained in the darkish because no count number what its extremely a 50/50 % danger. solid success

once you are prone to keoids, if the keloid is removed it comes back worse...you need to see a plastic surgeon and then you are not out of the woods yet...i would remove the stud and see if the keloid goes away
good luck
