Why is it said that if you have an American flag in your window, they will not stop to speak to you? Is there any truth to this??

If that is true about them not saluting the flag, can you explain to me why they do not??

Mike: The Bible also tells us in Titus 3:1-3 "Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authoritities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men." The pledge to the american flag states "one nation under God".....so wouldn't that be like us giving our allegiance to our country and leaders as long as they are obeying God??

There is absolutely no truth to this urban legend. A Jehovah's Witness well-respects the flag of of his country, and would hardly harbor some superstitious aversion to it.

Jehovah's Witnesses understand the bible to teach that Almighty God requires exclusive devotion; that is, he requires that worship and unrestricted allegiance belong to Him alone.

(Exodus 20:5) I Jehovah your God am a God exacting exclusive devotion

(Matthew 4:10) Then Jesus said... ‘It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.’

Of course, Jehovah's Witnesses are well-known as law-abiding persons. The Scriptures also teach that obedience is owed to secular governments, which the bible calls "the superior authorities". Of course, such subjection is RELATIVE to the unrestricted allegiance which is owed to God.

(Romans 13:1) Let every soul be in subjection to the superior authorities, for there is no authority except by God; the existing authorities stand placed in their relative positions by God

(Acts 5:29) We must obey God as ruler rather than men

(Matthew 22:21) [Jesus] said to them: “Pay back, therefore, Caesar’s things to Caesar, but God’s things to God.”

(1 Peter 2:17) Be in fear of God, have honor for the king.

It may be helpful for non-Witnesses to read all of Daniel chapter 3, and note the connections between the ceremony described there and modern pledge of allegiance.
(Daniel 3:18) Let it become known to you, O king, that your gods are not the ones we are serving, and the image of gold that you have set up we will not worship.

Hi.

Nope no truth to it....

Jehovah's Witnesses will try and talk to anyone who will listen to what the Bible says....

The reason thet Jehovah's Witnesses do not worship a flag is Bible based, first we have Jesus example:

(John 6:15) . . .Therefore Jesus, knowing they were about to come and seize him to make him king, withdrew again into the mountain all alone.

Jesus would have been the best earthly king ever. Yet he taught that God's Kingdom was the only solution to the worlds trouble. The above scripture shows that Jesus had no faith in earthly kingdoms.

Then we have this one;

(1 John 2:15) Do not be loving either the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him;

Then of course there is this:

(Leviticus 26:1) 26 “‘YOU must not make valueless gods for yourselves, and YOU must not set up a carved image or a sacred pillar for yourselves, and YOU must not put a stone as a showpiece in YOUR land in order to bow down toward it; for I am Jehovah YOUR God. . .

(Psalm 96:5) For all the gods of the peoples are valueless gods; But as for Jehovah, he has made the very heavens.

(Psalm 146:3) . . .Do not put YOUR trust in nobles, Nor in the son of earthling man, to whom no salvation belongs.

People..... men..... earthly governments can not fix the mess around us. Jesus taught that. Jehovah's Witnesses believe what the Bible says too, so they don't get involved with man's efforts to fix a problem that men cannot fix.

Mike.

They'll still speak to you, but they won't salute the flag.
They go into public school classrooms and those have flags. They also stand before the flag, but won't put there hands over there harts.
The answer is no there's no truth to it.
Btw they won't salute the flag even if it's enforced by the government and face punishment or prison time.
EDIT
"If that is true about them not saluting the flag, can you explain to me why they do not??"

Yeah, they see it as an image.
Exodus 20:4,5 ; 1 John 5; 21

Anyways, a Jehovah's witness in school not saluting the flag isn't that rare. Neither in this country or in others, but in Cuba it was obligatory and they still wouldn't do it.
You can look into this for yourself, but I think it was also required in this country in the past.

Their only allegiance is to god. When you think about it can one really pledge and allegiance to a flag (symbol of a government) when you are never sure if you can agree with all of its policies?
