You know, I've always wondered that myself. It is the "flesh" of another living creature... why isn't that meat??

one of the reasons is that fish is not considered 'meat' is because it comes from a cold blooded animal, where 'red meat' is from a warm blooded animal.
another is that 'fish' has important symbolism in the Catholic church. Christ fed the masses with fish; the apostles where considered the 'fishers of men'; when Christians were in hiding during Roman persecution the symbol of the fish was used as identification in recognizing a fellow Christian.

Jesus chose many of his disciples from the fishermen community. Traditionally fishermen are poor folks of the community. Fish is the principal source of energy for them. But meat of terrestrial animals used to be delicacies served during celebrations. During lent, the catholics and other Christians are not supposed to celebrate. They stay away from animal meat. The rules, for observation of lent, have been set by the Catholic Church.

Fish is frequently seen ok for Catholic fasting, yet no longer chicken. the belief is you ought to not be ingesting something which you fairly savor, so whether you do consume fish, you ought to not make it extra yummy. yet once you're giving up meat besides, why no longer bypass vegetarian?

I dont know but to me thats just dumb!!!! Meat and fish are pretty much the same thing, a living thing we kill and eat. Hmmmm Just dumb is all. Besides the bible says that when we fast we should not tell anyone and do it with a glad heart but to keep it to ourselves.
