Jaun is correct, you can bring over as much as you want, but if it is more than $10,000 you must declare it at customs.

If you have a bank account with a Debit Card or ATM Card, ask your bank if you can use it in Canada. You should be able to, but always best to check first. Then carry a smaller amount of cash (under $1,000 perhaps) and pay for things like hotels and meals on your debit card, and take out more cash as you need or want it.

Bring $500 in small Canadian Bills and a credit card.
Or if you like Travellers cheques bring them in $100 CDN denomonations plus a credit card.

Don't bring a bunch of cash

That would be up to the Austrailian govt...If you were leaving Canada you can only take $10,000cdn

As much as you want. You have to declare your cash if you are carrying over $10,000 Canadian.
