My son used to love Marilyn Manson and he was not weird although I sometimes thought he was. Your Mom may be afraid of some of the things she has seen or heard. Gothic is more a style than a manner of thinking. At least that is how I see it. A little weird....but then don't all young people like to show their individuality by being a little off the beaten path? I know I did. (long long long time ago)
I'm sure if you show her that you are still the same person and that you are still normal she will get past the weird stuff. Try to realize that she loves you so she is going to be worried any time she sees something that "adults" might consider different. Best of luck.

Yet another case of watching too much tv and forming an opinion based on a stereotype. I could write a book on what it means to be Goth, and what it used to be 20 years ago. I could certainly be considered Goth and I'm not a cutter, not suicidal, or any thing like that. I'm a nursing student in a functional marriage, and spiritual. If you like to wear black and listen to MM, thats perfectly fine. The kids who are cutting themselves and are suicidal are often just a product of bad parenting.
Goth is a sub-culture just like the jocks, the ropers, the nerds, ect. MY parents would have been worried if I came home in a cheerleading outfit because most of them (from my experience) are drug users and promiscuous.
You're fine. There is nothing wrong with marching to the beat of your own drum.

It was told this to our youth, since you are a new creature in Christ, do you really want other teens to see you going around with all that war paint (black death) on, like Jesus has done nothing for you??? Maybe the black cloths are OK, but not the totally white face and black eyeliner and any other black make-up that is worn to make you look like you are ready to commit suicide after you just got saved. There is some good christian rock bands out there that yell and scream in their music, instead of Marilyn manson who use to be marriade to a high class stripper.

It is alright to be gothic. It is not alright to be suicidal, to cut yourself, or to worship imaginary dieties.
Gothic is a style. Depression and self destructive behavior is an illness. The two are not necessarily indicative of the other.
That said, your mother sounds like a good mother and it is her job to be concerned about your behavior. But she is also showing her ignorance about this subject and is generalizing. Would she say the same kind of thing about people who wear baggy pants and turn their hat sideways?

Boohoo. You like Marilyn Manson and wearing black, red, purple, and white, and don't mind a little makeup.
Your mom obviously doesn't know what the gothic lifestyle is. I don't really know, either, but hey! I know that not all of them self-injure, and most of them prefer not to go to Hell when they die.
Tell her that this gothic thing will do no more to your religion than having a few awkward looks whenever you walk into church.

not every Gothic is suicidal and cut themselves or worship Satan, we have lots of "normal" people killing themselves, and are cutters too nobody raises a fuss about them. normal kids who live in the rich life and look fine. if you are comfortable with who you are and what u like, than u will be fine. the people who aren't comfortable with them selves are not are they? every person is different with in themselves.

Did she also tell you that it's just a phase and you will grow out of it. Do the world a favor, and if you feel like expressing yourself, why don't you do something original like study hard and excel in school. The world wont take you serious if you look like some sorta freak.

I wouldn't worry about what's on the outside right now. Work on the inside, grow in your faith. If you want to hear the extreme side of what you should wear, try http://www.covenanter.org/Attire/apparelandattire.htm

It's all right to be anything you want as long as you don't hurt anyone in the process.
My mom used to think heavy metal (back in the 80's/90's) was evil. I converted her and she started going to all the metal concerts.... LOL.
