With regards to medi-ports is it safe to draw labs with a vacutainer or should a syringe only be used ??

a syringe only, because you have to discard the first 3-5 ml. according to your facilities guidelines.

It's better to draw the specimen with a syringe and then transfer it to the vacutainer. It's safer for both the patient and the nurse.
