I have a parrot and a cat also a dog, and the Parrot is the BOSS. When I 1st got the cat it made the mistake of trying to stalk the parrot, but the parrot was smart and gave it a hard nip on the nose. Now if the parrot comes out for a fly the cat runs upstairs like a shot.

the dog has also been nipped on the nose on several occasions but dogs aren't as clever as cats. The daft dog goes back for more.

Cockatiels are known to have night frights where they flail around the cage and break blood feathers. I have 2 and they spend their life out of the cages except at night. I would not have birds with larger pets around. I think it's cruel for them to spend their whole life locked in a cage for their own safety. They are very sociable and require your companionship. If you can be absolutely sure, and you can't be, that the dogs or cats will never get to them, then go ahead. I know from experience, birds are very fragile. There are also alot of foods and houseplants that are poisonous to them.

if you're deciding to get a bird, be very careful where you put it and what you do with it. as we all know, birds are hunted by cats in the wild. so if you're determined to get a bird, then go ahead but keep it in a separate room or don't let the cats go in the room where you're going to keep the bird. if you do, make sure the door is locked very very tightly so the cats won't paw at it and make the bird dinner.

My cat doesn't bother our bird, but would kill him if given the chance.
just keep cats outside whilst handling the bird!
Also get a hand tamed one, they are a lot easier to handle.

cats and birds don't mix well, I'm not saying impossible but it is just against nature for them to live in close quarters together

Don't get cockatiels...they scream and will drive you crazy...especially if you don't let them out of the cage.
