It's their vision. When someone has a hard time reading, even from a short distance, then it's a good reason to wear either eyeglasses, contact lenses or go through laser surgery to correct their vision.

Unfortunately, the laser surgery is expensive so some people prefer buying eyeglasses and contact lenses.

Eyes are like any other organs. It's bound to get worse in time so that's why there are a lot of senior citizens wear eyeglasses.

They also have problems so that's why they can't wear contact lenses (try putting in a pair when your hands are really sore!).

Some people can't wear contact lenses so they have to wear eyeglasses.

I hate to say this, since I do wear eyeglasses and contact lenses but WOWZER!!! Look at the price of all of them!

I know that it costs a lot to make eyeglasses and contact lenses but geez!!! $120 for 6 months of contact lenses? $250 plus for eyeglasses?

People on low income often have to say no to these because they simply cannot afford the cost. Even these with jobs can't always afford them.

So that's exactly why I'm wearing a five years old eyeglasses; the eyeglasses nowaday is not affordable.

Anyways, sorry for the rant, but I thought I'd let you in in the everyday life of people who wear eyeglasses, contact lenses or go through laser surgery though I have not gone through one... yet.

There are different reasons. In simple terms some people are nearsighted and some are farsighted and some are one or the other in only one eye or both in different eyes. That's why we can't just buy dollar store glasses most the time. If you are young and having a slight problem with reading alone it may work for a while but the Dr. also should check for diseases, many diseases are seen through the eyes, they are the direct way of looking at the brain...they can detect high blood pressure and pressure on the eye. I hope this helped some. It is usually hereditary or it can just be us, how we were born or even exposure to too much sun or even things like fire, like jobs where people have to look at fire in glass blowing or welding or other things.

As I'm nearsighted and have astigmatism, I need glasses in order to see at a distance.

People get glasses/contacts in order to be able to see.
