This person is friendly on a one to one basis like she will go to lunch with you, or call you from her office and be friendly, but when everybody gets together she acts like she doesn't know you, even if you ask her a question or say hi, she will play it down.

because this coworker is fake, she probably actually likes you but percieves that there is something about you that others will not or do not like (which is probably in her head) so she is trying to save face. this person is a coward and a loser and you should not waste your time, or call her out in private. she will probably just deny it because people like this aren't honest.

This may seem odd, but she might be overly shy. I knew a person who was super on a one to one basis, but when they got into a group setting they became nervous and they reacted by shutting everyone out. Perhaps this may be the reason and you need ask her about it. Don't sit there second guessing what or why she's doing this--ask her!

You might be surprised!

She may know that others in the office don't like you and doesn't want to act as if she does.

She may want to seem superior to get a promotion.

She may not really like you, but be using you for favors, gossip, or just to ease boredom.

The real question here is, why do you care why the 2 faced b* acts that way.

I cannot add to what the others have already said, surely the true answer is a combination of all those answers before mine. My advice: don't consider her a friend AT ALL only an office acquaintance and that should solve your problems.

I think that this mood changing behavior is caused by pure jealousy. This is very common amongst people. Try talking to her and ask her what's up w/ her attitude when you go out to lunch or when you talk to her in general. Or ask one of her friends. You may discover the secret to this mystery.

Since you lunch together, possibly she wishes to spend her time with people she doesn't normally spend her time with.

Is she your friend? Do you spend time with her outside of the work environment? If not, don't take it personally but maybe she doesn't feel close to you. Since I retired, I've found that although I liked my co-workers, I only liked 3 or 4 of them well enough to socialize with.

Because the group apparently does not think much of you and they are afraid of being known to like you.

obviously she is not a very friendly/genuine person, you are better off sticking to doing your job and spending down time talking to worthy people!
