I have to reproduce a painting from the 20th century. I found one which can be found here : http://voirouregarder.typepad.com/photos/morceaux_choisis/renoir.jpg but I don't know what it's called. The website doesn't give me any information whatsoever. I'm pretty sure it's by Pierre Auguste Renoir, but I cant seem to find it anywhere, and I don't know if it's even the whole painting. So I was wondering if anyone recognized this and could help me, give me some information? I need this as soon as possible. Thanks.

This work of art was done by, none other than, Jean-Honore Fragonard, (1732-1806). It was painted, oil on canvas, c. 1770-72 and is called, " The Reader." Fragonard was a french painter, a pupil of Chardin and Boucher. Known also for his works, "The Swing," erotic canvas, c. 1766, " Inspiration," 1769, "The Bathers," 1765, and The Pasha. Among his works is a collection, " The Progress of Love," 1771-1773, for Mme. du Barry, Louis XV's most beautiful mistress. Although, she returned the painting to him. He was ruined by the revolution and died in poverty.

I'm not sure who painted it but it was more than likely painted by an artist prior to 1900, which would make 19th. century art. The 20th. spans the years 1900 through 1999. I suggest you chose something a little more modern than what looks like it was a Dutch Masters painting. And even if it were painted by Renior that would still make it a 19th. century painting.

You might consider paintings from Picasso's 'blue period' or perhaps works by Thomas Hart Benton or Edward Hopper? These were 20th. century artists.
