My parakeet keeps panting over nothing. We've had hi, for over a year and he's never reacted this way before. I heard his heart rate and it's racing. His tail is facing forward and I'm beginning to worry! He was eating a Pringle some days ago, do you think it might have been the salt? He was also feeding his baby parakeets, if you think you might know what it is please get bak. He also keeps spreading out his wings but we bathed him and he keeps doing it, he's not hot. Please get back!

when a bird is panting (and not hot) it usually means he is very sick. You need to take him to the vet. If it is not being too warm, he is probably having trouble breathing and will not last long at the accelerated pace. Tail forward meaning pumping his tail? that is a sign of labored breathing.
If you do not plan on taking him to the vet, put him in a cool, quiet, and dark area and hope that he will get over it.

Take him to the vet. He's probably really sick. No, I don't think it was the Pringle because my birds eat Pringles all the time. And make sure he always has plenty of food and water. And I really have to disagree with the person who answered before me because salt is actually very good for birds and many other kinds of animals. It's the only part my birds ever eat whenever I give them crackers. But, jut make sure they don't eat it too often because they need lots of fruit and seeds, too. Good Luck! :)

Please do not EVER get yet another chook! Or the different puppy for that count number number. i'm a budgie breeder, and being egg certain with again to again eggs is completely the utmost painful issue a chook can flow through. Do you recognize they lay eggs 2 days aside? So your undesirable chook had that first egg stuck for 2 days! She became in absolute soreness! and also you do not have a clue what you're doing besides, it truly is glaring. a woman parakeet would not desire a male to position eggs. they are going to lay unfertile eggs and not using a male, and also you both favor to understand that and be prepared or no longer have any birds again. and in no way, ever pull an egg out you moron! Your chook died because it had a uterine prolapse, it truly is why it became bleeding-no, it truly is no longer frequent for a classic, healthful egg laying to have bleeding. the first egg were given stuck, your chook became in soreness attempting to push it out, and because you're somewhat of garbage and did not take it to an avian vet on the on the spot like you ought to have her uterus began popping out. Your undesirable chook had no peace! Asshole.

Generally from my experience, the panting and the wing spreading are not good signs. Is he staying at the bottom of his cage? If so, I would take him to the vet. Are you sure its a he? It sounds like over stress from egg laying.Or egg bound?

take his perches out of the cage and hang a25 watt light bulb over the cage and cover the cage witha towel he is very sick, use a eyedropper to offer water if he is handlable, and pray. He has probly got a cold don't get him wet anymore and keep he away from drafts. If there is chicks to feed you will have to finish rearing them if the female refuses to do her job as sometimes they do good luck you will need it

sounds like the little dude has a fever. panting is a sign of pneumonia and he will DIE if you do not get him to a vet immediately! this is an often incurable ailment so be prepared for the worst.

do not use the lamp thing. he has a fever. you dont want to make him hotter. do not try to dropper water him. you may drown him if the water goes down the wrong pipe.

he will not just get over it either. he will die.

ABSOLUTLY !!! NO bird does well with salt!

they have no pores, and it will be hard for the bird to eliminate the salt. Keep the bird warm, feed lots of juice and water, and for God's sake don't offer salty treats. Birds lose their kidneys that way.

panting is usually a sign of stress. take him to the vets. you may have to hand-rear the babies if the female won't feed them. also no parakeets should ever have avocado chocolate or raw potato, these are poisionous for them and will kill them. please take him to the vets. and isolate all other birds from him until he is better.

Get your bird to an AVIAN VET ASAP!!! He is VERY sick!

Keep him warm 85 degrees and out of drafts until morning. Take the chicks and mate too if the vet wants to see them. You may need to learn how to handfeed too. He may have passed the illness to his mate and chicks, so please, get PROFESSIONAL help ASAP!
