I'm looking for a first time car, and I have a little to put down on it. Got any advice for an almost 17 year old looking for a good car? Low gas mileage, low maintance?

Kia or Hyundai dealership for a new car that cheap. I would suggest a lower priced used car for a first car though. Look in your local newspaper for a Honda or Toyota that is cheap and take a older male who knows about cars and financing to look at it with you. Shop around and don't take the first car you look at. Use http://www.nadaguides.com to find the value of the car before you go to look at them and always take it to a mechanic to look it over before you buy. Stay away from the cars on ebay. There is a reason people put them on ebay.

kia and hyundai are cheap and always will be. if you buy honda or toyota you will be able to sell it when you need to move on. if you want to save your money, don't buy new, sure you get warranties and stuff but the minute you drive it out of the lot you lose 5-8 thousand dollars of its worth. no kidding here. this is right up my alley. best choice is one or two year old lease turn ins. they are sometimes certified by honda and toyota and terrific buys. just make sure to bring it to a good mechanic and have them take a look at it. also good idea to do a "can't think of the search name" but if you go online and look for used cars they always ask if you'd like a CARFAX REPORT. seriously though hyundai and kias are considered throw away cars in the industry. one of the best cars ever made was a corolla by toy motors.

Some people hear suggested kia, huyndai, and even - God forbid - dodge... they must be in towing business. For about $15,000 you can get a Honda Civic!

I bought a Dodge Caliber about six months ago, and I really like it. It's built on the Neon wheelbase, but it's surprisingly roomy, and it has a hatchback, so there's lots of storage.
