First of all the average amount of sleep in cats are about 16hrs a day, but since u have a kitten they tend to sleep longer, just like babies do...
2nd, you only had your cat for a wk or so, so it takes time for your cat to get used to his/her surroundings...my advice is to First and foremost be very patient with him/her, what I did when i got my first kitten is i tried newspaper in the litter box at first and then when he peed or took a dump on it i put a little piece of the peed paper in the box with the litter so they get the scent of their pee...You just have to constantly show them where there litter box is and make sure it is in a quiet area of the house cuz you wouldnt like peeing or taking a dump in front of everyone, and also last but not least if this consistantly happens then try using different kinds of litter I personally use Scoop away and i love the fact that it clumps and its easier to clean. Also, try setting him/her in the litter box about every hour or every couple hours so she gets a feel for the litter and its location...
Don't worry she/he will figure it out its in their instinct...I was once a brand new owner of a kitten now i have 3 cats and 4 kittens.
GOOD LUCK!!!

I read the "Cat Fancy" magazine and ironically the latest issue (April) was about raising kittens. So... there are a few things I think you can do. First off I have no idea how old your kitten is, but I am guessing only a few weeks. To start with the litterbox... your kitten eventually will be able to use the litterbox, but you need to reinforce it. Right after your kitten eats you need to put it right in the litterbox. You should also do this after playing with your kitten. Using a litterbox is innate to a cat, so it should not take long for them to figure it out. As far as your kittens bowel movements, it might be what you are feeding the kitten. Formula can definitely cause diarrhea (kind of like how it is for a baby). Try feeding it a good kitten food (I recommend Nutro Natural Choice). I have raised kittens before and once they have teeth, they can chew their food. I used dry food, but I still did water down the food to make it easier to chew. Otherwise they have canned food or food that comes in packets. If the diarrhea persists, take the kitten to the vet so it does not dehydrate. I hope this is benifical for you and good luck with your new kitten. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me.
Oh, if you are going to use Nutro, I suggest going to their website (www.nutroproducts.com) they have tons of coupons that will be worth your while.

well to solve the litter training problem make sure the kitty litter is always clean scooping it daily and changing it weekly. put the kitten in the litter box he will dig around but thats normal. do this atleast 2-3 times a day his natural instinct will tell him that this is the bathroom. as far as his stool goes try switching him to kitten chow or a hard kitten food to change his food you will want to gradually mix the new food in with the old food. kittens will usually sleep alot but dont be suprised if hes super hyper sometimes he will get more mellow when he gets older I would also reccomend having him nuetured this will help prevent bladder infections and will raise his life span according to most veterinarians it will also mellow him out. If his stool does not change to being normal within about a week i would reccomend taking him to the vet as soon as possible. Good luck and congradulations on your new kitten

I was told by a vet one day to confine my cat in a room that has adequate ventilation and good natural light ex. a window...put the animal's food, water and any toys your baby may have in the room and do not let them leave the room for 24 exact hours. 'A cat will not make a go to the bathroom near its food'. I have done this with my cat(s), and it works well. Just be sure to visit often and play the animal, and make sure it is safe, and well watered and well feed. Try changing the litter and be sure it is clean. I clean my cat's litter every couple of days. If you move the litter box, you must put your cat into it, and let them leave it. This ensures they know the location of the box. I was told once that an cat needs 18 hours sleep a day. My cat sleeps that much for sure.

First, try putting soil or unquestionably sand interior the field. youthful kittens each and every each and every now and then desire this; i think that's extra instinctual. If it is likewise eaten... ...then your kitten has p.c... that's seen in human beings, too. that's a bent to consume issues that are non-suitable for eating, in many situations, yet no longer consistently in an attempt to attempt to fill a nutritional deficiency. Anemia (iron deficiency) is the main common reason in the back of p.c.., whether contradictory to what scientists used to think of, the craved "nutrition" in many situations would not have the nutrient the guy is lacking, yet in many situations is for clay/airborne dirt and airborne dirt and mud (like clutter). each and every each and every now and then picas make sure themselves without help as a results of fact they stem from youthful interest (kittens ingesting clutter in many situations falls into this class), yet while they are concerning to a nutritional deficiency, they gained't bypass away until the deficiency is taken care of. SO, you should take your kitty to the vet to get it examined. frequently, this could point out anemia, yet while that's ingesting the grimy clutter from the different cat, it could additionally point out a choose for yet another byproduct--cat feces, case in point, are intense in protein and protein byproducts. Cat clutter, extraordinarily the clumping style, could reason undesirable obstructions of the intestines, so this needs to be stopped, even whether it is not as a results of a deficiency. If sand/soil do no longer paintings, try shredded newspaper on the same time as you handle the nutritional deficiencies, if the vet unearths any.

Well I think that the reason he isnt going in his litter box is because he wasnt taught by his mother to go in his box. You are going to have to show him that the litter box is where he needs to go. Pay attention to him and find out how he acts when he needs to go and before he goes on the floor take him to his litter box and keep him there until he goes. As far as the stool I am not sure about that.

If you have other cats, he might not like the idea of sharing. Also Siamese cats are known to do this. My mom had one and the only place he would poop is in her bed. She ended up having to gove him to a friend. If there arent any other cats and hes not Siamese then idk. Can he find his litter box? If its close to where he eats you should move the box or his bowl. Cats dont like to poop close to where they eat.
Generally cats sleep an average of 16 hours a day but he might sleep more because hes a kitten.

If you have only had for a week, then he is still trying to settle in, maybe he dosnt like the litter you are using, you may have to change it. Change of food could make his tummy upset too. Kittens sleep alot, depends on their age.

Well he is settling in still, but if you don't even see him digging in the kitty llitter, than you need to show him that's what he needs to do.
1) Take him to the box
2) Put him in there (make sure he stays there)
3) Grab one of his front paws and dig the paw in the litter.
Do this several times, as it does take a little for him to get used to. Make sure you do it every 5 minutes after he eats, as that's when they will usually go to the toilet. Good Luck!!!!
