How many apples in a pile? Get a baking pan, grease the bottom and sides with oil or margarine, turn on the oven to 350.
then wash about 6 or 7 apples, slice and core. Leave the peels. Layer the apples in the pan, one layer deep. Sprinkle with about 1/3 cup of sugar and 1 tsp. of cinnamon. Keep doing this until the pan is full. Mix about 1/2 cup of dry oatmeal with a tbsp +or- of sugar and smooth this over the top. Bake for about 30 min. or until the apples are done. You won't have any problems eating this, it is good, no fat calories unless you add milk or cream over the top....ok hot or cold. Best wishes., you can also freeze any leftovers if there are any.

Apple Butter!
This is incredibly easy if you have a crock pot. I usually set everything to cook overnight, and wake up to fresh apple butter to put on my toast or in my oatmeal. Yummy!
Peel, core, and slice as many apples as you can fit in your crock pot and still have the lid set flush on top. Add 1/2 cup of apple cider (or apple wine... the alcohol will cook off), 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves, and 1/4 ground mace (or nutmeg... it's pretty much the same thing). Set the crock pot on low heat and let cook, covered, for about 8 hours. After 8 hours, stir in about 1/4 cup sugar to taste. Depending on the type of apples you use, you will need more or less sugar, but you won't really know until you taste the fully cooked and seasoned product. The apple butter should be cooked down to a lumpy applesauce consistency... you can run it through a blender if you like a smoother texture.
Enjoy on pretty much anything from breakfast food to pork roast... or just eat with a spoon like my husband does :)
You can store this in the fridge for about a week, or can it and store on the shelf for much longer.

How about apple sauce or apple pie.
Apple sauce
8 apples
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 cup fresh apple cider
1/2 cup sugar
1 cinnamon stick
Peel, core and cut the apples into large chunks, tossing them with the lemon juice to prevent discoloration.
Place the apples and remaining ingredients in a large, heavy pot; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer, cover partially and cook until apples are very tender, about 15 minutes. Uncover the pot and cook 5 minutes more.
Remove the pot from the heat and discard the cinnamon stick. Coarsely mash the apples with the cooking juices. Cool to room temperature, then refrigerate.

My kids always want me to make home made applesauce.
Peel/ core apples, cut into large chunks, put in micro-wave safe dish with a small amount of water, cover and micro-wave until soft. Take potato masher and mash apples until desired consistency, my kids always like it chunky. Add sugar and cinnamon to taste. Simple, fast and very enjoyable!
