Ok, I can't believe I am going to answer this, but here goes...

Question: 398 divided by 7

So, 7 does not go into 3, so then try 7 into 39 (which it does) 5 times. Put the 5 above the 9, the 35 below the 39 and subtract 35 from 39 which leaves 4. Bring the 8 down and then divide 48 by 7 which is 6. 6 x7 is 42. Put the 6 above the 8 and beside the 5 (56).
Next: Put a decimal point beside the 56 and beside the 398 and add some zeros to the right of the decimal point.
Now, put the 42 below the 48 and subtract, which will leave you with 6. Next bring a 0 down from above so you have 60. 7 times 8 is 56, so put 56 below the 60 and put an 8 up on the top beside the 56 so it should read 56.8
Next, subtract 56 from 60 which leaves 4 and bring another 0 down from above and it will give you 40...

So you can see where this is going and hopefully you can figure out what I just wrote.

Allright. Let me get this straight. You need to help your sister with long division, right? So, if you are putting up a question, then why don't you give us the division problem? It would make our answers better. Now, we can't help you because we don't have the division problem.

first divide the number closet if it's to hight then do not use the number. then bring down the number for example 56 divided to 56001.the number would be 1000 then multiply 56x1000.it will give you 56000 subtract 56001-56000.remiender 1. done.
