What you first have to realize is there is a difference between religious people and spiritual people. Sadly, many Christians are "religious" people. What does this mean? It means you have the holier than thous, the Sunday Christians, and so on. Mainly, many of them claim and live their Christianity for the sake of society. Going to church and living religiously elevates them in the eyes of society...or so they believe. Because of this, they many times consider themselves better than most other people, and are often quite condescending.
The short version is that many, but NOT ALL Christians are actually self serving. They get so involved in their "good deeds" that they forget what their really doing and who they're really doing it for. Now, granted, most of them are not aware of it, but they are guilty none the less. Don't get me wrong, there are many good Christians as well. But the bad apples ruin the bunch. I myself was raised Southern Baptist and have seen more than my share of all the above. Because of that, I myself do not attend church anymore, nor do I subscribe to any particular denomination, to include "non-denominational," which has become a denomination itself. I simply believe in God.
I would ask in closing that you do not judge all Christians by the actions of the bad apples you encountered, but instead simply try to be aware of the way people are. Accept them for what they are, and don't expect more than that from them, and try to sort the good apples out from the bad. My condolences for your loss and good luck to you.

who owned and paid for that shelter?
Where I live, the best shelter around is owned and operated by a Christian ministry. The do so much good for our community and have helped thousands of people. They have operated for over 70 years and all on the donations of Christian people.
Giving doesn't buy anyone the right to mistreat another person. But lets not attack ALL Christians for the rude acts of a few!!!

That's just the way it is. It sucks. I live in South Alabama, and it seems to me that people down here in "The Bible Belt" are only good Christians on Sunday morning, Sunday night and Wednesday night. As long as they are on church property, they are the best Christians. Once they leave the church however, they become as two faced as a person can get. Needless to say, I don't belong to a church. I believe in God, I believe in what the Bible teaches. I try to live that way to the best of my ability (most of the time). I have raised my daughter the same way, though she does go to two different churches of her choice.

Unfortunately, the people in the shelters know that in most cases, it is a series of bad decisions which leads a person to a homeless shelter. In your case, it was not your bad decision, but the one of your father in not providing for you in case of his death. Unfortunately for you, you were the recipient of his bad decision.
You say that no one wants to help others if they don't get something in return, but I have to disagree. I've done many things only because the Bible commands me as a wife of noble character to stretch my arms to the poor. I expect nothing in return, I just do it because it pleases God.

--Because, when any of us are not careful, even with the title christian we could easily become hypocrites.
--There are people who try to be kind at times, and there are thoses who really try to be like Christ---but the problem is that most people cooperate with God's enemy Satan and "play" being a christian, note what the Bible states as far as where we are as to a time period:
(2 Timothy 3:1-5) “3 But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. 2Â For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, 3Â having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, 4Â betrayers, headstrong, puffed up [with pride], lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, 5Â having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power; and from these turn away.”
--These types of people would be those claiming to be followers of Christ, and practicing self-righteousness.

ALMOST no one i know that is christian really follows their religion. they go to church to get bored and think that as long as they go there they will be saved from "evil". All of us judge sometimes, its just human nature. Although some have no self control. Just ignore people like that..or what i would personaly do,(i know its too late for them) go and ask them why yourself!

Because to be christian means you can pick and choose what you want to believe in the bible, and that can change at any moment. Also, you are always going to be forgiven so it really doesn't matter what you do as long as you go around telling people you believe. christians think they are superior to non-christians.

Its that most that are helped...don't care to help themselves. So after time of giving help to those that won't take it and do something with it....it can really drain someone of that good deed.
