It isn't has common but it isn't rare. Breeders will tell you that to get more money out of you. Shih Tzu can be born solid brown and change colors as they get older. I had a solid brown one that turn Grey.. I just had a solid black one and he turn brown. so it it hard telling what colors they are going to be until they grow older. You can tell by lifting up their hair the closest color to the skin is normally what color they will be. Your might stay brown but it isn't rare as she lead you to believe.

I have people tell me that a breeder told them the white spot on top of the puppy head was a thumb print from an emperor.

Sometimes I will have a solid color Shih Tzu but I tell the people they may not stay that color. It is a shame what story I have herd breeder have told people to get more money for their dogs. I had one breeder tell me that this puppy would cost more cause he had a red spot on him..sighs...

Just love your puppy, Hopefully he will stay solid brown for you.

In my opinion no my sister in-law breeds and raises shih-tzu's for over 18yrs and has solid browns often. (i completly agree with china aboves comment) when someone tries to say its rare it usually isnt and wont stay that color. eg. we had a sable fawn pei which according to most is rare but i did not sell her for more or tell them she is rare as her coloring can become more solid later.

We adopted one from our shelter, and I saw the dog a year later. It had turned completely grey.
