There actually is a syndrome called Sundowners Syndrome that is also know as Night Time Fright Syndrome.
It is generally diagnosed in the elderly patient who is suffering from Dementia or Alzheimer's disease. A smaller percentage of patients who are fighting anxiety disorders and anxiety attacks can suffer from it.
It means basically that you become more and more frightened and insecure feeling at night, worry about everything that is on your mind. It will affect the quality of your sleep which can have a detrimental affect on your entire day.
You should speak further to your doctor about taking prescription medication or using natural herbal medications and teas in order to help with your anxiety.
Good luck and have a good night.

Need more info. Are you not moving because you are afraid and just don't choose to ...this is fright and may be normal if you are alone and live in a city or even a rural area, stop watching and reading the bad news, read something nice or watch good feeling tv shows before bed. Take a benadryl to help you ge to sleep.
If it's because you truly feel paralyzed, like you can't move because of a physical thing it may be something else. There is narcolepsy but it doesn't sound like that. Sometimes people get into really heavy sllps where they have trouble moving even after they are awake. This is just a matter of taking more time and dealing with it, slowly moving and not hurting yourself by moving too fast. Whatever it is if it gets a lot worse, see someone if you can afford it. But, I would try relaxation tapes, dep breathing...the local library should have some of these. Good luck.

Night Fright is known as Achluophobia, meaning a fear of the night and darkness. The fear can become so over whelming that the person becomes paralyzed with fear. Having to deal with these symptoms and conditions isn’t easy and each case is different, best dealt with by medical professionals.

I have studied about this... it has to do with a specific sleep cycle that if you awaken during it you cannot move and feel frozen. It is called sleep paralysis. Here are some websites but there are others you may want to look at.
