My 13 mth old has been acting weird the last few days. Not sure if it's because I was working a different shift this week on different days, or if he's trying to drop a nap. But Tuesday we went out for the afternoon shopping, after his morning nap, and thought he would sleep in the stroller or in the car on the way home for his late afternoon nap,but he didn't, he was up until bedtime 830.Then Wednesday, only slept when I took him for a walk at 400 since he hadn't napped yet all day!! (in-laws were watching him), and yesterday thought he was trying to drop a nap, so he staid up later and I layed him down after lunch and was up at 315, but still needed to have a cat nap at 6 ??? I don't know if any of that information is important, my main question is how/when do children drop to 1 nap/day ? ? (Not that I'm complaining he's been having 2, but not sure what he's trying out right now)

First off, Sorry for the rudeness of folks. Look your the parent and you know your child better then anyone. Remember take advice with a grain of salt.
Second, Set your child's schedule to what you need. Your child will follow. My daughter is 12 months and I have limited the bottle to only bedtime, but that is only because she took to the sippy cup straight away. During all meals and anytime she asked for a drink I give her the sippy cup. (she took to the one that had soft nipple on top not hard plastic)
Third, Like I said if you need her to take a nap at 10am and 2pm then start setting your schedule to that. My daughter only goes down for 2 naps now at 9am because she is up before the chickens are,LOL. and at 3pm. She down for the evening about 6:30-7pm. Again I cannot stress keeping you child on a schedule.
GOOD LUCK!!

I have a 15 month old son. He is down to one nap a day unless he is really tired. He wakes up about 8, and eats breakfast. Then has a snack about 10 or 11. and I feed him lunch about 12-12:30. Then he goes down for his nap. He usually sleeps about 1 1/2 - 2 hours. He is ready for bed about 7 - 7:30. I would keep your son up longer in the evening so he goes to bed earlier and does not need a little cat nap. he might get fussy but will get used to it. Of course that sometimes changes, he sometimes is ready for a nap about 11, then takes an afternoon nap about 3. it just depends. I try to keep to a schedule but it's pretty much up to my son. I wish he would take two naps a day still, but then you are always trying to get things done around his nap times.
Hoped this helped.

It seems like he could go to just one nap a day. Maybe try keeping him up alittle longer and putting him down for a nap after lunch. He may sleep longer for you, but that means he probably won't need that nap in the early evening, just that one. It's hard when your schedule is different for a day or two, it can really make a toddler off.
And 2 bottle a day is doing great at 13 months

you did not say how well he sleeps at night.

He should be fine, on the two naps during the day'

he will dictate how long he needs to nap for .
10-11 am is a good nap time
an early nap, in the afternoon, 2--3pm

This is better than 6 pm
which is nearer his bed time
.
he will gradually only need one, nap time during the day ,
you will know, when he is sleepy and lay him down .

all my children were slightly different ,in their sleep patterns .
They seem to adopt their own pattern .

the main thing is,
not to allow him to get overtired / grouchy ,
as this will intrude, on his great night sleeping .

This he needs, a good nights sleep and so do you!!

what proportion naps does he get an afternoon? in case you attempt to get him to take 2 naps, he may well be struggling with against it because of the fact he in basic terms isn't drained. try adjusting his schedule to a minimum of one nap during the day and notice if that facilitates out. If he's barely taking one nap an afternoon already, i might advise letting him fuss slightly once you bypass away to work out if he calms down on his own. not CIO, in basic terms giving him a pair minutes to comprehend that sure, it is nap time and likely, he needs to bypass to sleep. Do you have track for him to hearken to? My son has a CD that he falls asleep to. that's extremely calming and soothing.

Both of my girls dropped their second nap at 12 months old. I put them down for one long nap between 12-1.

My guess is your child is ready for just one nap a day based on what you have said.

With just two short naps in a day maybe it would be better to try to get him to take one longer nap. My son took two twohour naps until he eas 2yrs old. But my daughter is 19months and just dropped her second nap,but takes one longer one now.
