Does it really matter which way I brush my teeth?

it gets the crud or food out from between your teeth if you go side to side it wont get it out as good.. i always go circular works great

To get in-between your teeth better. And it also helps clean the area near the gums. Side to side brushing doesn't get these areas as well as brushing up and down or in a circular motion.

To get crud from between the teeth. I go up and down first, then crosswise to get the gums exercised.

Yeah because the earth turns sideways so brushing that same way is conteracted by its motion, thus rendering it uneffective. "Up and Down keeps away that frown."
