extremely, and as to the first answer by tim, they blatanly dont cost 10000 a pair. to buy rec skis around 750, boots in the same range. lift tickets are about 50 bucks a day now, and renting is pretty expensive now. so if you plan on skiing alot over teh winter, i would suggest getting some skis and boots at teh beginning of the season, they will last you a long time. and season passes are always a good thing. finally, MIM has no idea what she's talking about. if she'd like to show me where to get free skis, then i would certainly follow her there. but shes just a dumass

Well, skis have incredible amounts of technology put into them, and making snow is ridiculously expensive. A small mountain near where I live has a vertical drop of a measly 300ft, yet it costs a million dollars to put one inch of snow on it. Thus, lift tickets are very expensive. Also, the lifts themselves require huge amounts of power to pull up to and over 100 people up a mountain

It depends on where you go. Some people get there skis for free because they got a package that says you get your skis for free. Other times when it is expensive it is because of skiing being such a fun sport!
