I think either is very thoughtful. Will you do one for me? Work has been horrible this week, I filed a complaint against a manager for sexual harrassment and now I am getting retribution.

I do not know. Both express the same thing, that you are thinking about them and care for them and want things to be better for them. Personally, I've never lit prayer sticks before or anything like that, but I do pray. It seems to me that for most it's easier to say, "I will pray for you" than to actually do it and mean it...and whether you are praying for them or lighting prayer sticks for them, the fact that you are acting upon your promise and your concerns shows that you are a great friend and one to be respected. I don't know why anyone should be offended by it. I'd be happy to know that someone truly cared about me that much. It shows that you are really thinking about them and continue to think about them and keep them in your prayers until they are answered. Good for you. I admire you for that.

I think it's because they don't understand....I used to think it was very Catholic but I've learned better now. A friend of mine who is not catholic lights candles as she prays for people. I'm not offended if you light a prayer stick or candle for me. I appreciate all the prayers I can get. Thank you very much my sibling in Christ.

When someone lights sticks to go along with their prayers, are they not trying to "help" God answer the prayer? I don't guess theres anything inherently wrong with lighting one, but to me, It seems like a lack of faith. That stick will not make your prayer more acceptable to God. We simply must believe that God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Also our prayers are said to be a "smoke" in themselves.

I don't really care what other people do. Most of the time, I'm thinking, "Yah, praying (or lighting candles) for me isn't going to do a thing." But if it makes you feel better, go for it.

Because it's not traditional. They may see it as a form of witchcraft, or something else they consider "evil".

I personally think it's sweet of you to take time out of your day for someone.
