I need some help with clever ideas for a Welcome Home Banner to display outside Base for his Homecoming. I have racked my brain for something different other than the obvious "Welcome home We missed you!!! And Love you!! " He is a SSGT. and works with the detainees( corrections) . Any wheels turning yet ..? Please help!! and Thank You very much for your thoughts :)

First Congrats that your husband is comming home safe.As for the banner he will like anything you come up with. He'll be happy to be home with his wife and family..Please don't stress over this.I am sure you have done enough of it while he was gone.I wouldn't know from experience but i can imagine the stedd you have been under.A simple WELCOME HOME SSGT(ADD HIS NAME)HONEY SON ETC
GOOD LUCK!! WE GIVE HIM AND HIS COMRADS AND OTHER SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN OUR SINCERE GRADITUDE.

You could make a banner that says "Welcome Home (insert his unit here)!" Then if you want, put the names of all the Marines on the banner as well. You could even have kids draw pictures or write things near their parents' names on the banner. If you move it to their unit area after the welcome home ceremony, they can leave it up for a while and everyone will get a chance to find their name or see what their kids drew.

If you want to do one for just your husband, you could put a family photo on it or have your kids draw on it (if you have any). I can't think of anything clever to write other than the normal our hero, we missed you, kind of stuff.

Also - if you're putting it up in a public place on the base, check to make sure there aren't any restrictions on banners. I think whenever my husband's unit comes home they have rules about the size, etc of the banners we post in the hangars. They may also have a rule about how long they can stay up.

Congrats on getting your man home, I know how excited you are!

well if you were to have one in your house it should say this

Welcome home...... Outside

Inside..... Now take off your pants

:)

Both outside the base you should just make one that says Welcome home our ( name of unit, like some people are the dragons, or the lightning or whatever) and then have a picture. or I have seen this.

It says WELCOME.... and then on a line below it says YOU ARE NOW HERE and a picture of the state with a star where the base it. I know some soldiers got a kick out of that stepping off the plane, since they fly so much.

I was going to email you this, but maybe some other folks would like to get involved the same way.
How about a BUNCH OF VETS(and non-vets) meeting your husband with you? They would have a CORRIDOR OF FLAGS (U.S. flags), and be escorted from the airport to his home or where ever by a WHOLE BUNCH of motorcycles flying American flags. If you think that would be a good way to welcome him home, check out the following web site. Pass it on to other wives there.
Check out the PHOTOS section, too.
A bit of history...there is a 'church' in Topeka, KS whose main goal seems to be putting down our U.S. military by going to the funerals of our fallen heros and screaming THANK GOD FOR DEAD SOLDIER, THANK GOD FOR IEDS, GOD HATES FAGS, AMERICA IS GOD'S ENEMY, etc. Well, about 15 guys from the American Legion wanted to do something to counter this group (Westboro Baptist "Church"...gagggg, you can do a google.com search on them to see how much they hate our military). In August of 05, they went to a funeral and formed a long line holding American flags separating the protestors from the funeral attendees. Since August of 05, the Patriot Guard Riders have grown to over 82,000 members nationwide (and I understand there are even some in Canada).
If you'd like to have the PGR meet your husband, there is a block on the left side of the site that says CONTACT US and you will hear from someone to make a MISSION to meet your husband.
It is such a great feeling when we meet a troop at the air port and escort him to his home (the neighbors will come out, too!).
It costs NOTHING. We do it out of respect for THOSE WHO HAVE STOOD FOR US.
If YOU sign up (costs nothing, no dues, no meetings) you can read the FORUMS about what is being done....even in your area.
If you have any more questions, you can email me.
Blessings!
