I would say keep the dog inside but it is clear that you are keeping the dog outside. If you would keep the dog inside at least when you know you are returning that would be the best option.
If you won't the I would recommend teaching that the driveway is always off limits. This means that you need to never allow him on to the driveway and whenever he does you must remove him immediately.
When you see him approach the driveway say no as soon as he is say three feet from the driveway. You might use an electric collar and as he approaches give him a quick shock.
Once he understands not to go on the driveway you will need to proof this behavior. So you need to set him up. Take sometime to drive up and watch him. As he approaches give him a mild shock and as soon as he sets onto the driveway give him the next level up. Repeat until he won't set on the driveway.
Do this everyday for a week until he stops a few feet from the edge and waits. When he is doing this consistently, you will need to periodically to re-enforce the behavior. You also can never allow him to step in that area again.
Also never acknowledge the dog on the driveway. Insist that the dog remain off the drive before you will say hi to him.
Good luck and I really encourage you to bring the dog inside but I understand that sometimes that is not possible.

First and foremost why is the dog in the lane-way? It should be either tied up or who ever let the dog out is irresponsible. 2-Get out of your car (if it has a collar take the leash tie him up keep him close to you and star giving orders (which a dog usually loves)to take because he always loves to please the master of command. No collar ! get one.Show him not to come in or on the lane-way, tell him with a lot of severity to stay were you will want him to stay at all time when you come in the driveway. It is a repetition drill. Not to forget to praise the animal when he does something right every time & you must take the time to do it if not you loose and he wins. Show, tell, petting, and love to an animal is a must in the training. Beleive me I trainned animals for locall police K9 units. Do all you can, best of luck to you.Just out of curiosity keep him in the house or the back yard by someone responsible for his actions and maybe you friend needs to welcome you with the dog and on a leash.

How big is your dog? With ours (large dogs) we would inch the car forward, honking the whole time. Once we got close enough, they would move, or sometimes we have had to nudge them with the car (we are crawling forward remember- not going fast at all) and they would eventually get it and move, or get pushed over, then get it and move. Now they are much better about cars.

Park outside the garage, put her inside, then pull car in. Seriously if you can't get your dog to move on command, she's in charge of the household. Give her a spot to redirect her to, like a bed or corner. Practice without the car in the garage, then with car in garage, then you pulling in to garage giving command.

She needs some toys to play with and doubtless exterior may well be extra useful. If this doesnt stop you are going to be able to could take a place in a bark collar, they artwork fairly nicely for nusence barking and the canine learns very immediately

Get a trainer to train her to move when a car comes because if she is in the road and doesn't move for an oncoming car the results can be deadly

~Don't leave her in the garage. Dog proof a bathroom or your kitchen instead.
~Teach her where to stand. Work with her so that she will obey a command to stand to one side.
