It is NOT GAD!!!
Social anxiety can cause these feelings.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/cognitive_b... worked best for me. I suffered from social anxiety for over 15 years. I've tried meds, individual therapy, and group therapy and studied psychology for 10 years, as a profession, but also with the hope to cure myself.
Depending on your comfort level, you could go to a psychologist that practices CBT and specializes in anxiety disorders, seek a group therapy, or create one. Usually those that do attend the group therapy are a bit more high functioning because as you know, it can be difficult to speak in a group.
Another idea is to see if there are any local research studies being conducted that you could participate in.
The program that finally worked the best for me is this one: http://www.socialanxiety.us/findinghelp.... and I was lucky enough to have a structured behavioral group to go along with it. Sometimes the people that actually attend this program come back home and form groups.
Any questions, let me know ... I can't tell you how much this has improved my life!

It sure sound like anxiety. However, only your physician can properly diagnose you and give you the proper medication, if any. I would suggest you make an appointment with your family physician and go from there. Rest assured you are not alone as there are many, many people with this disorder and it is nothing to be ashamed of. Not getting treatment would be awful and you should treat yourself better than that.

Well it could be, I have a Panic disorder. Sometimes if I over think a situation I will fall right into one. Sometimes I will feel like I am about to die, Like I am going to have a heart attack or worse someone will see me having a panic attack. I am much better now, I've been taking paxil for about 2 yrs and it has worked for me. If you really want to know for sure you should see your Dr. and talk candidly about your situation. Maybe medication would work for you. I hope you feel better :)

Yes, it does. I think what you need is a confidence building experience.
There are many ways to do it. You could try taking a martial arts class for women. Maybe a "ropes course" some type of survival hike.
Do some research on the net and find out what works best for you.
Good luck.

I have it. That sounds like some of the symptoms, and I understand what you are going through. Do some research. The more you learn about GAD, the more power you have over it. It took me 2 years, but I learned to gain control of my worrying. Just remember to relax, and talk about it with people you trust.

Either that or brain cancer (just kidding). One of the most common fears in civilized societies is fear of being around strangers. There are pills that can numb you, and surgery to remove the part of your brain that feels anxiety. See what your insurance provider will cover.
