I find that running on the treadmill is consistent for heart and cardio, but i find it more of a lifting action compared to pushing, its not the same, i also notice that running on the treadmill isn;t as effective in burning fat as compared to sand or road etc... why so ? i am more consistent on the treadmill then on road or cross country sometimes i am slow and sometimes fast but treadmill is just one pace for 25-30 mins.... anyhue probaly to do with diets, anyone else got similar results ?

Of cause running on a tredmill won't give you the same workout as sand or road. But that is why you should use a variety of surfaces as it will strengthen all different muscles, joints etc. Of couse. On a tred run on a 2 degress incline to give you roughly the same resistance as running on a flat road or track. Nothing to do with diet. just vary you running and do smaller amounts of your sand or road until your body has the same strength to carry you like the tred. Takes a while to push through what is harder. Most of us like the easier option. BUT VARIETY IS THE KEY.

you burn more calories outside or in sand because it's harder to run there. the sand slips out from under your feet so you really have to use your calf muscles a lot more. surely you've noticed that. and when you run outside you're going up and down hills a lot (even if you don't think you are). and of course cardio and strength training aren't the same thing. that's why you need to do both...

ITS BETTER ON THE TREADMILL ON THE FEET. BUT SOMETIMES YOU NEED MORE UNLEVEL SURFACE TO RUN ON LIKE HILLS AND PATHS.
