I've been in that kind of situation before, well with me being the one trying to commit suicide, and nothing anybody said to me would change my mind and obviously I didn't die (whole other story). My point is that I think I would just let that person be. I mean if he/she is crazy enough in the mind to want to commit suicide, then let him/her do it and don't stand in the way.

I work for a police department. If someone REALLY wants to kill themselves, then I'm very sorry, but there's no way you're going to stop them. They'll do it eventually. If, on the other hand, the person calls the police, calls a friend, threatens suicide, or anything like that, then they actually want attention and want to be stopped. If I happened to come across someone that was about to commit suicide, I would probably ask them what they were doing, and why they were doing it. I'd ask them if they would like some help, and if I could do anything to perhaps make them change their mind. If not, then I would walk away and call my police department as I left. It's their life, not mine, and they should be free to do what they want with it.

First, I'm a Christian.
I would probably do many of the things a wise atheist would do. I would try to get the person to talk to me, I'd listen, I'd express my concern, and interest in the person, I'd try to win their confidence, and give them a reason for staying alive another day.
What I wouldn't do:
I wouldn't say: "Don't do that, God doesn't want you to do that". Or start trying to convert the person. Yes, I would probably tell them at some point that God cares about them. If they didn't believe in God however, I wouldn't emphasize that aspect. I would emphasize rather the fact that I care, and I would hope to find a way of letting them see that other people care about them.
Of course I wouldn't walk away from the situation.
(If they were actually in the physical act of committing suicide, I would try to intervene physically, of course).

I would not, under any circumstances, walk away. Maybe they have a reason, but suicide is a permenant solution to a temporary problem! I would try to help them and explain to them why it is a bad idea. In the end, though, i believe it is their choice, but they need to be better informed before they do anything in the moment.

I would most certainly try to help the person, probably by first calling the ambulance so that medical personnel could help them. If I spoke to the person, I would probably say that they are valuable, a child of God, and do whatever else seemed appropriate in the situation. I might sing a hymn, for example.

This has been addressed in many movies. You would think that if it happened in real life you would have the courage to make a difference. Who cares what your religious thoughts are? A person is suffering. Help out your fellow human being.

I'd do whatever it takes to change their mind.....if they are on a ledge....climb up with them. Slitting their wrists....take the knife or razor away....and LISTEN. Talk to them based on what they say.
I don't believe it would be by fluke. A coincidence is just a purposeful happening by the Lord to confound the wise.

I will surely ask him the reason behing taking this step and if possible...within my limit or otherwise also will try to help him out in that situation by my own or by taking help from someone and try to find some solution of the problem

i would do my absolute best to let them know that life is worth living!! and they have a purpose uniquly designed and only they can fulfill it. i don't think i would try to make a convert out of them just then, a person that stressed isn't metally prepared for that type of message..but then again this is just my answer .

As a Christian, I would try to stop them immediately and then try to help them change their minds.
