Of course, anybody can live in West Hollywood.
It is illegal in California to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation in housing. The Fair Employment and Housing Act is very clear about this. And it works both ways (the law doesn't just protect gays, it also protects straights).
That means landlords in West Hollywood may NOT advertise a rental unit as "gay only" or "no straights." If you see such an advertisement, you should complain to City Hall or file a lawsuit.

West Hollywood has been set aside by an act of Congress as a reservation for gays, ( much in the same fashion as an Indian reservation). In order to live permanently (more than 60 consecutive days) within the boundaries of the City of West Hollywood it takes approval of the Tribal Council of Gayness. Regardless of these restrictions, however, it is a wonderful place to visit. It has a new casino opening in the fall of 2007.

Anybody can live there, but West Hollywood has a large gay demographic. There is also a sizable Russian population and some of the signs you see in WeHo are printed in Russian.

It would be illegal to designate an area as specifically for gays (or just for straights for that matter). West Hollywood welcomes alternative lifestyles, but there's nothing that says you have to be gay to live there.

Any one can live in West Hollywood. The only thing is, if you drop something, look behind you before you bend over to pick it up.

of course anyone can live there. there isn't a law where it says that gays and lesbians can only live there. there is a large population of gays and lesbians though. you could live there if you don't mind being around them.
