Your best bet would be to call VW Performance at 3865 N 38th Ave, (602) 442-8997 and ask someone there for a recommendation on a good VW repair mechanic in the area. Best to always go to someone that specializes in *only* that one brand of vehicle since he will know it up one side and down the other. A general mechanic won't know all the myriad details of your VW like a specialized mechanic will.

It's possible that VW Performance will also do general repair, but judging by their name I can only assume they are a go-fast shop that specializes in making your car go a lot faster.

Lastly, I'll offer you this: I had a VW overheat from a stuck thermostat, and since those cars have aluminum heads, my head warped [that's VERY bad news] which allows your oil and water to mix. I had to have my head replaced to fix the problem. If your head is warped, you will need to have your head replaced also. Don't let them suggest "shaving" your warped head to save you some money, as you will have further engine problems in less than a year by doing that. Pay the difference and get a new head if yours is warped.

Lastly, with everything you're looking at doing, if the head isn't warped, you'll likely spend about $250-400 if the radiator needs to be replaced, perhaps several hundred more if you warped your head.

If this car has been good for you, it would be worth it in my opinion to repair it. They're incredibly sturdy & reliable cars if you take care of them.

Good luck.
