one of my guy friends yesterday asked me if i had a boyfriend! i told him that i didnt! which is true! then i asked him why and he just said no reason that he's weird like that! then i said can i ask you a question that has to do with what you asked me! and he said sure and i said never mind its not important! i was going to ask him if he was going to ask me out! but you see, i dont like my friend that way and i was thinking what if he said yes and then i would have turned him down nicely cause i still want to be his friend whether he asks me out or not! even though i dont feel the same way about him! so would it have been rude to ask him if he was going to ask me out or not!? and if he said yes he was going to then say to him that i dont feel the same way! and if he said no to the question then i would have said oh cause i dont feel that way about him! would it have been rude to ask that question, no matter what his answer is!?

He was interested in finding out if you had a boyfriend..which gave him an open door to be able to ask you out, but didn't want to ask you right then and there.........and Yes it would have been rude to ask him that...knowing that you were going to turn him down anyway
