A new car is a used car once you sign the papers and drive it off the lot. A new bottle of shampoo is new until it is opened.
If you are referring to advertising something as new, I learned in a business class (years ago, so it may have changed) that products can be advertised as "new" for 6 months after they are introduced.

until its old? Um, until some thing newer comes along? Until you can barely sell anymore. Until producers drop their prices...Until you touch it? Until you bring it home, or leave their place with it? Until it gets dirty. Until you stop treating it with "over care?" Until every other company starts making it? Until you are sick of it. Until its broken? Until the fad is over....
