I know that these terrorists are the scum and scourge of the earth, but torturing them like that makes the soldiers almost as bad.

I don't believe some of the stuff about menstrual blood being smeared on them etc. However I do believe that they were deprived of sleep, and forced insertion of intravenous fluid, and the mocking of their religion including flushing the Koran down the toilet.

War does strange things to the brain. A soldier in a war zone will do things that they never would dream of doing at home.
Why????
They are under constant stress to do their job, to survive and to make sure their comrades survive. It is survival that causes so much stess.
Stress is caused by a poor diet (you try eatting rations daily),
lack of sleep (at times 72 hours or more), lack of proper Vitamins and minerals (combat depleates these fast), and constantly being on ALERT.

This stress build up until the person has to release it. You can release it in a good way (yelling in a closed room, hitting a punching bag, running for miles) or a bad way (agression, abuse, anger, making fun or humiliating those in confinement, killing or more).
These soldier did WRONG there is no doubt about it. But no one would ever know the reason unless they walked in there shoes. Hours and hours and days and days and weeks and months guarding those that killed your troops. Soon you will treat them more like animals than human. Stress is an misfortunate malady of WAR.

First of all, Santabud and Mother hit topic right on the nail. You can't always believe what you read or hear that comes from the liberal media and/or Islamic radicals that trying to turn the tables on us by utilizing false or exagerated propoganda. Example...you may have seen video clips of GTMO detainees being hauled in a cart or stretcher or carried away by soldiers. Of course it's easy to conclude that these poor souls must have undergone some heinous ordeal, when in reality, they have just recieved some form of medical or dental surgery. That's the portion that everyone fails to leave out. The truth is this...while in our custody, they are recieving more elaborate health and dental care than most Americans ever get or can afford...and believe me when I say that some of them really needed it or they would be dead by now. Also, another point that the media fails to mention is on the average just how much weight they've gained since in our custody...try 40 lbs? If you can recall to other times in history, e.g. WW-2, Korea, Vietnam, when prisoners were held in camps, did anyone else manage to gain that much weight...I don't think so. If were doing anything harsh to them, it's raising their cholesteral level and blood pressure. How do I know all this?....because I spent almost year there as an Intelligence Officer/Interrogator. If you really feel the urge to jump on to some moral band-wagon, then you need invest your energy advocating against the carnage being brought upon innocent civilians by these Islamic thug criminals. Y'know? the beheadings of civilians and contractors just trying to make a living, or the deaths of school children or college students and average persons within the public market by some ****** suicide bomber. One last point for you to chew on...would you take the word of an American felon convicted of multiple rapes and murders? It's the same thing for these ******* that are getting released. Pick a side! Nuff said!

I don't care...I just hop they do. As long as even 1 American life was saved I could care less if they were deprived of sleep, stripped naked and their holy book abused. I spent 18 months in Iraq and 2 years in the middle east. I survived 7 IED attacks and 35 mortar attacks. I was in Baghdad on 2 occasions when car bombs went off and saw the carnage and devastation that those explosions did to human bodies. And you think I should be concerned if our soldiers are sleeping peacefully? That will be a cold day........

Do you think the families of Nick Berg and Daniel Pearl sleep easily each night?

Hey Bob Sac...I am a former US Army officer and as I said, I spent 18 months in Iraq. I'll put my IQ up against yours any time. You parrot the comments and opinions of those who have never served their country, seen combat, actually been in mortal danger or ever done a selfless act. You castigate those who wear the uniform because you lack the courage to commit to anything other than your own pathetic needs.

Because the "torture" you see on the "news" is a result of the red cross only speaking to the prisoners. The soldiers aren't allowed to speak about it, so the red cross takes whatever the prisoners say and runs right out to the cameras, without ever actually seeing any of the so-called "torture".

I have to disagree with you on the issue of torture. In war, information is as vital as bullets and bread. Enemies aren't simply going to betray their cause without some effective means of inducing such betrayal. If I had a number of enemy soldiers who were withholding vital information that would save the lives of my fellow soldiers, and end the lives of my country's enemies, then Malcom X would come to mind, and I would obtain that information by any means necessary.

I would only regret the loss of innocent life, a terrorist, or combatant captured while actively taking American lives would be given the same respect that he or she gave my fellow soldiers.

Let me respond to the question and the MLK quote. First of all these people are torturing these terrorists as you have said to get information. How do you think they would sleep if one guy wasn't tortured, no information was obtained and another 9/11 happened? As for the MLK quote - we are not dealing with any common darkness. We are dealing with true evil, these people want all Americans and infidels dead, they don't have to know you to know everything about you: You are an American or a christian, or Jewish, or some feuding sect of the Islamic religion, you are evil. It is this intolerance of fellow men we are dealing with, and quite frankly if we do not become intolerant of this intolerance, we will fail. No negotiations can occur. To win this war on terror and fundamentalist/ radical Islam, brute force is needed.

The "torture" you refer to is more a product of someones offended sensibility than it is actual torture. We have not physically abused these people as many have claimed, & making them appear without clothing was wrong as it was done & caused humiliation........that doesn't constitute torture.

Senator John Mc Cain can tell you a thing or two about torture, having spent seven years at the Hanoi Hilton, being severly beaten, dragged thru the streets, beaten again, starved.....

No the incidents at Guantanomo while inappropriate in character are a far cry from torture.

Late edit for Bob Saca......I served 6 years defending our country, hoping to make it safer for everyone...including YOU....& I'll put my MENSA level "deficient mentality" up against your narrow minded ill informed grey matter at any time on any matter.

Don't cast aspersions at the men & women who give you the right to make such nonsensical judgements...please !!

I remember watching these people dance in the streets as the towers fell, killing thousands. I remember seeing videos of civilians being beheaded on camera, soldiers being dragged through the streets as crowds danced around them and ripped their bodies apart. So, if they have to watch their precious koran be flushed, or deprived sleep, too effing bad. At least we aren't beheading them on tv.

It's a messy job but some one has to do it.

Most have been locked up so long most of what they Knew is now irrelevant.

They don't care about any other lives except their own and even then see themselves as martyrs

They should be sent Iraq in a remote controlled well marked USAF C 130 over Baghdad until it was shot down*

I'd imagine they sleep very well knowing the terrorists they are holding can kill no innocent civilians from inside their cages.
These people blow up busloads of women and children.
Torture them? We ought to EXECUTE them, as a matter of course! Prison is too good for Murderous Fanatics!
