The US has a very special, cordial system for Canadian citizens -they are not included in the Visa Waiver program, yet generally Canadian citizens are granted visitor status in the US for up to six months at time of entry without a visa. Requests to extend a stay beyond this time must be made to the nearest office of the US Citizenship and Immigration Service. Permanent residency is not allowed under this type of entry, and any visitor may be asked to demonstrate that he/she is only remaining temporarily in the United States.

Six months, without a visa, so long as she doesn't work or intend to set up permanent residency in the US. If she's planning on staying longer, she needs to get a visa, and there are a variety of visas available-K1 for a fiance/fiancee, K3 is a spousal visa, H1B for work, TN (a skilled worker visa available only to people from Mexico or Canada who meet certain qualifications) and a variety of student visas.

If she doesn't work, how is she supporting herself? If she doesn't have sufficient ties to Canada (job, school, apartment, etc) it may be difficult for her to come into the US, depending on the mood of the border agent.

A Canadian can visit for 6 months. But if she "moved here" (ie set up residence) then she is out of status and is subject to deportation!

Well you were doing good until you mentioned she met her boyfriend on-line. This type of person is not welcome here and can only stay for 48 hours on the SI (stupid idiot)Visa. Please move to Canada with your friend

I think 6 months is the standard they give anyone,

Canada is ok, so you have nothing to worry about. We like Canadin people. It's those other people we don't like.

6 months sounds right, she doesn't get the generous treatment illegal aliens do....

Really doesn't seem right, tell her

Good Luck!
