Hi, i have had my rainbow lorikeet for 1 week now and it has become adapted to me and doesnt squak at me as much. I was just wondering how long it takes them to start talking? Another question is how can i get the bird to sit on my finger? he puts one leg on my finger and he doesnt put the other one up.

Thanks for any answers!!

There's no specific time table for when a bird will start talking. They are just as individual as we human beings are. Lories can be rather good talkers. Just talk to the bird a lot. They tend to pick up the words you say with most emphasis, so be animated when talking to him and priase his attempts to mimic you. He'll soon start picking up words. To get him to step up, use slight upwards and backwards pressure when he puts the one foot on your finger. The goal is to unbalance him slightly so that he chooses your finger for stability. Lorikeets thrive on praise! So whenever your bird does well, be sure to praise him profusely! Offering yummies such as sultanas is great for encouragement as well.

well for them to start talking you have to introduce them to the words you want them to learn and you have to practice everyday. You have to push on his legs a little then he should get up there...

Hope i could help =]
