Jesus' last commandment was that we love our neighbor. To truly love your neighbor means we love them regardless of conditions.

The Bible never says to hate gay people. We're supposed to love everyone. Seriously :) Whether they are our neighbor or our enemy, or whoever. Gotta love them. Now God's law or commandments do not equal "hate", neither does the preaching of God's word. Many people equate gospel verses with hate speech. But don't be confused. The truth is not hatred. So we are supposed to love gay people and everyone- that IS part of God's word. So there really isn't a contradiction between the two (loving people/loving God's word), and it shouldn't be a problem.
As for churches:
The Catholic Church doesn't tell people to hate gay people. I don't even know if Baptist churches actually say gay people should be "hated". Every Christian I've ever known has said we should love, and speak the truth (WITH LOVE). It's unfortunate that no matter how lovingly we speak the word of God to others, that someone will always say we "hate". Personally, I think that's a tactic of the devil to try to silence us. Don't let it bother you.
Also: Every denomination or church will have something that you may not always agree with. Whether in the Baptist church or the Catholic church, just accept the core beliefs required for salvation, and don't trouble yourself too much about the rest. No one can take Jesus away from you.
So in conclusion: 1) The Bible does say to love everyone (that includes gay people), so it is right to love both people and God's word. We don't have to approve of homosexual activities, but we do have to love people. 2) Accept the main Christian teachings required (in the Catholic Church, this is called "dogma") that is REQUIRED for salvation (such as the Trinity, Salvation comes from Christ, there is only 1 God, etc). 3) Remember always, it's all about Jesus!
God love you!

If you had a child, maybe you do, I don't know your age. I think you are young. Anyway if you had a child that you dearly loved but that child got involved with drugs. You would love your child but not like the fact that they were involved with drugs. God is our Heavenly Father and He feels for us the way a parent would. Learning the Bible doesn't happen over night, it can take years, be patient with yourself. And you are right, Jesus is the way. If I may suggest to you if you go to www.ttb.org. it is the website of a Dr. J. Vernon McGee, he teaches the Bible verse by verse and if you follow along you will have a better understanding than now. He has a radio program that airs daily, but you can listen to the same lesson online, just click on to the "archives" He just started in the book of John, so that is a really good place to start. He does not push any particular religion on to you only the Word of God is taught. I have listened to him for years.

The answer is real simple.
I am a great example. I love GOD and am only able to stand before him by grace through faith in Jesus finished work on the cross.
I was born a liar, cheat, thief, drug addict, alcoholic and still sin almost every day. I stop sinning the moment it comes to my attention but GOD shows me new sins all the time.
Do you love me?
What if I added homosexual to that list?
Homosexuality is listed as an Abomination and so is a prideful look. So if we lynch all the Gays, we are also going to have to lynch the arrogant people too. That wipes out about 50% of the Christian population of the USA alone.
If this sounds crazy, that's because it is.
We love everyone period. We are not supposed to project our homophobia onto our Christianity.
Shalom!

You have to understand how God operates. I can tell you do. How do you love everyone (gays, hetrosexuals, lesbians, etc.) and stil lbe a lover of God's Word? You need to understand loves everyone in the world. He loves Islams, he loves Jews, he loves Athiests, he loves Christians. He loves gays and hetrosexuals and other various sexual variations. Even though most of those people made bad choices in life such as loving other guys or changing sexes, God still loves them. It is, however, wrong to be like that. God has made that very clear. It is very immoral to love anyone of the same sex. But listen to this: God loves everybody. He loved Saddam Huessein because he was God's creation. He loved Adolf Hitler because he was God's creation. God loves the evilist men in history because he created them. It's hard to explain, but God doesn't hate people. That's why we had Jesus come down and have himself killed so we could live forever.
No matter what, God loves everyone of his creations. That's why he's saddened when they make bad decisions in their life. He's saddened by the fact that his creations won't all be going with him in their afterlife.
I think what you're noticing is that other...what do you call them...variations...denominations! That's the one. Denominations only twist God's word to where it is the same. Catholics are more of a solemn kind of denomination that believe in so many things including that you cannot eat anything you like for 40 days because Jesus was fasting that long. Baptists are almost the same, but they don't have that many rules.
Protestant is the only denomination I've been in. It is radical in its belief in God. I'm even considering beginning the new genre of Christian Death Metal (don't know how the death part's gonna work out.) But, don't take my advice. Listen to God. He'll tell you where to go.

The bible asks us to love our neighbor as ourselves. It does not mean you agree with what they're doing and help it along. It does not talk about an emotional love we might feel for our spouse or children. It means to love others by not seeing their faults first. To be forgiving and helpful when needed. Not to harbor bad thoughts about a person inside us. God will deal with them in His own time. It is not up to us to judge someone. But again, you don't want to partake in the sin either.
Keep loving God and read His word. I go to a church where all we do is sing and then study the bible. No rituals, no rules.

Jesus is about work and self sacrifice.
Carry the pack 10 miles instead of just 5 miles
Give CLOAK as well as coat
Carry a sword just in case, but don't live by it or hurt the other person if you can
It's NOT an easy life.
Work for no rewards. You may work like all get out and NOT qualitfy to get into heaven. Under THOSE terms will you still WORK and BELIEVE!

For me I came to the realization that love is a choice and it is not all that easy. I have to remember that there were and are things about me that are going to be unlovable to others. I practice trying to see others as I envision God seeing them. I'm with you on the religious thing (so was Jesus) and yes parts of the bible are confusing. Doing or acting on what Jesus taught weighs in more than just giving it lip service. Jesus said "if you love me you will obey me" and to 'love God and your neighbor". When I catch my self thinking something other than love for others I choose to love them. Doesn't mean that I have to like or accept what they do.

God commands that we love others. See Matthew 22:37-40
"Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: "Love your neighbor as yourself" All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.
We are also told not to judge others. Consider what Jesus told a group of people ready to stone a woman for committing adultery in John 8:7, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." It is not our job to judge others. We need to work on ourselves, and are called to love others and pray for them. God will judge (Revelations 20:11-15)
If it were not for God's mercy and salvation through Jesus Christ, none of us would have a hope of heaven.

...One of the elders at our former church used to say it this way - ask yourself, what is the loving thing to do? I still use that one, when I am trying to decide how best to minister to someone.
...We owe everyone the debt of love - we are not required to love what people are doing or even to like people - we must love (serve) them, however. We must be careful not to involve ourselves in others' sins.
...While I accept that "alternate lifestyles" exist, the Bible does not say to celebrate them, and they are to be rejected. RE: the people of that persuasion: I don't know who might be that way, but I try to be courteous to everyone. I will not get myself in any kind of compromising situation.
...I always escorted my kids to the public restrooms, for their protection, since deviants are sometimes inside.
...I guess I try to be loving, but also cautious.
...RE: the Bible - I have been a Christian for 29 years - I don't know what it all means, either, so don't feel bad; I probably never will understand it all, but I know enough to have trusted Jesus Christ and I follow Him.
...Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved.
(Acts 16:31)
...Whosoever will, may come.

Simple. Follow the standard set by Jesus. Jesus accepted everyone who came to him, he rejected no one. All that sexist, homophobic crap comes from the nut/psycho/fruit/crazy god of the Old Testament and Paul, not Jesus.
