I'm really into pirate stuff, and I thought it would be really cool to have a room that showed it. The problem is, I'm on a very small budget (basically I have to pay for it with my own money) so I can't get one of those custom pirate ship beds or anything like that. What are some low-cost things to do to my room to give it a pirate theme? What kind of bed should I get, since I can't afford a fancy one? And what kind of dresser or other clothes storage? Or, any suggestions on how to paint wooden furniture to make it look pirate-themed? Thanks :)

If you get sale ads in the Sunday paper, alot of times, Michaels, Hobby Lobby and JoAnn Fabrics will have 40-50% off coupons. They may have some things like fish netting, crate boxes and wooden ship wheels. You can hang fish netting in your room and hang stuff in it. You can buy some crate boxes for you stuff like Cds, books, accessories. You can buy a wooden ship wheel, paint it to look distressed (old) and put a picture or mirror in the center. If you can find a hook (maybe a hay hook) you could hang a couple of hooks on your wall as robe/hat hooks. Make a treasure map by crinkling some tan paper and burn the edges a bit and frame it on the wall. Buy an old trunk to look like a treasure chest and store your shoes or games in it. As for your bed, hmm, I can only think to get a big black flag or fabric made into a flag and paint that skull/bones symbol on it and run it up the bottom of the bed at an angle so you can see it when it hangs.

Ignore the Rosie O'Donnell , "wanna-be, racist comment (true fashion girl). It seems people wanna make innocent ideas onto something sinister. What she said was true about real pirates, BUT you are talking about light hearted Pirate type stuff... I assume (at least I hope so).

I am no interior decorator but you should be able to find some novelty shops (maybe even on the internet) where you can buy a few props. A small wall mirror done like a ship's portal.., a novelty fishnet and floats. You'd also want a stuffed toy parrot or two..., maybe some star fish, a couple of sea or island pictures on your wall.

To make a nifty functional treasure chest, just buy an old chest at a junk shop - and use it to store things in.

Hmmm -thats all I got. Hope that helps some. You might also Google for "Pirate theme room decor" -or- "Pirate theme room design"..., something along those lines.

There is a show on Bravo called Next Top Designer or something like that. They did a pirate themed room and you maybe able to get some ideas from it that you can translate into your own room.

I would try to go to some local garage sales and see what you can find that is rustic looking and maybe abused. I would use dark stains on wood furnitre and try to distress the furnature to make it look old.

That is all I can think of . Hope that helps some.

research and get a lot of pictures.any wood you need, you can get free behind Lowe's or the depot.a lot of their products come on rough wood they throw away.i would paint dept on the walls, and if you are not good at art,get you a coloring book like peter pan, choose a picture you like, got to a printer and they can make you a transparency and rent a projector and project it on your wall, trace out and then color, oops,i mean paint it.to do this right, you haft to think like a pirate, like rough, smelly, dirty, wild clothing, and of course, must have a pirates hat,and lots of rope and a treasure chest.
