My bird keeps on laying eggs and the problem is that she is infertile. I dont know why she keep doing it. I feel so sad she lays them and then sits on it but when I turn the lights off she abandons them. I give her calcium to restore her body. What should i do???

Your bird might be sick. I know that salmonella infection can cause eggs that don't hatch. There are a LOT of reasons eggs won't hatch, and most have nothing to do with an infertile bird. If she's laying eggs, she's fertile.
I've attached a link to a site that explains about eggs that don't hatch (and other important issues).
Save an egg, and take it into a vet. They can check for disease or deformity. If your bird is sick (which is very likely), she needs to be taken care of as soon as possible.
Hoping the best,
T.

This is a medical problem called chronic egg laying. It can cost her more than calcium, it could cause her to die.
Please take her to an avian certified vet for a check up and professional advice on how to get her to stop.
Here are some things you can do in the meantime.
1. Seperate her from the other birds.
2. Decrease the ammount of light she gets every day. Cover her early and make sure the cage is dark. Start having 8 hours of daylight and if she is still laying, decrease it more.
3. Continue to make sure that she is getting extra calcium.
4. Whenever she looks like she is getting broody, rearrange the cage.
5. Do not provide any hookbill with a nestbox unless you are attempting to breed.

Yes, it is bad. Laying eggs depelets the calcium in its body. It will eventually die if you do not get it help from an avian vet. it is bad because it is very difficult on their bodies = what you need to do is remove the nesting area Birds lay eggs naturally, they do not need a male in order to lay eggs, look at battery hens. What they DO need a male for is to fertilize the egg. The eggs she is laying will never hatch she is just going "broody". What can you do? Keep moving her off the eggs and take them away from her and try to give her something else to occupy her mind. Or you could get her a male budgie. Same as us humans really!
SHE WILL NOT DIE FROM LAYING EGGS! It means she is happy. you must be taking very good care of her. All birds lay eggs whether, they're with a male or not. What the male does if fertilize them. She won't be able to have any chicks though. Just make sure she's eating properly and she should be fine. Never heard of budgie females to lay eggs without a male. They are not like hens. Try getting her a male budgie , love them both and feed them properly, and you might have little budgies. Enjoy watching their love ritual, and their habbits after she layed the eggs. After little budgies hatch it becomes more interesting, but you should see it for yourself. IMPORTANT ADVICE if you'll choose this solution: do not interfere in any way. Just observe them.(and, of course, feed them properly) Do not touch the eggs! You can touch the youngs after they come out from the nest by themselves. It is natural for the bird, however, it will deplete her from necessary vitamins she needs. She does sound very happy but you need to curtail the egg laying. Change her cage slightly, not to stress her but to give her something else to look at and study. New toys and such. If you decide to get a male bird there is NO guarantee she will like him or accept him. You should make sure you are giving her calcium supplements. Try putting in some "fake" eggs. You can find them at a pet supply store. She will be able to sit on them for as long as she wants and it might curb her from laying more. As always, check with a vet. Most times you can call one and they might give you some advice over the phone. If they are really concerned they will suggest you bring the bird in.

Female birds lay eggs and she will keep doing it. She will do it more if you keep removing them. There are alot of places on line that sell artificial eggs so just replace the real with the fake ones and that will help alot.

in the journey that your female has mated with a male parakeet, danger is eggs are on the way. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, women keets can lay infertile eggs without the excellent thing approximately a male chook (hormonal subject). there is fairly no way you could understand in strengthen that a female is close to place eggs different than that she could exhibit nesting habit or her cloaca ought to look swollen in simple terms previous to laying an egg

The eggs are probally not fertalized or she could be sterile. If you wan't you could call your vet and see what they might think or take her in. Maybe something else is up like depression or something. Maybe not. But i do agree you people talking about omlets, get a life she asked a serious question and should be treated with respect and you don't deserve to have living creatures under your control acting like that.

Is she infertile (impregnated but not laying fertilized eggs) or is she a virgin (never mated with a male)? Her laying the eggs and sitting on them are both instincts and should not worry you.

Definitely take her to a vet, preferably one that specializes in avian medicine. This sounds like an unusual problem; i definitely think a vet visit is called for.

The bird is having her "period" or when the egg is not fertile. Is there a male in the cage?
