im a dental assistant and my daughter had braces and she sed that the worst part of it was the spacers. She didnt have a bunch of jacked up teeth but her arch was narrow and we wanted to broaden her smile. In other words she didnt have anything extreme. but the only complaint from her was the spacers. Spacers are like tiny rubber bands and we place them on the distal and mesial of your first molars. They provide space on both sides of the molar so that a band can be placed and cemented. Bands are what anchor the arch wire .When you get the spacers placed they recommend you not eat anything chewy that might pull them out but your teeth will hurt a little while the spacers are in. My daughter complained that she couldnt eat that it hurt. She had to take Tylenol or Advil to help. Other than that she just had to get used to the bulky feeling and keep her teeth really clean! She actually started paying closer attention to cleaning her teeth after she got the braces. The results will give you a beautiful smile for a life time! They also hurt a little after each visit for a few days. Be sure to brush well and floss and you shouldnt have any problems!

I just got braces a month ago. Initially it was ok I just felt a little pressure, but the next day after getting them on I was in terrible pain. I mean every one says it worth it so I figure why not. You gotta weigh the gain veruses the pain. It took 2 weeks for the sensitivity to go away.
I just got them retighten yesteryday and honestly I am sitting here and it hurts like hell. I am actually about to go to the store and get some pain relievers.

Have you seen MI:III? If so, do you remember when the people's brains were exploding? That would feel kind of good if you just got braces. Depending on how your teeth are, braces can really hurt. The pain may be worse in some areas than others and can change areas depending on which teeth are moving more. Mine hurt for about a week, and I couldn't eat solid food for that time period. I would advise you to take painkillers and eat cold soft foods like ice cream and Jell-o. Also ask about Damon system braces, which I have and are smaller and are said to hurt less than regular braces.

Many people say they don't like braces. I don't have them but my advice to you is to NOT eat what the dentist says (unless you want them to take the stuff out.. or even worse...new braces.), and also make sure to BRUSH YOUR TEETH. Some dentists offer a cleaning when you get your braces offf... another thing if you dont brush your teeth and the braces come off you may end up with a mound of like black in the middle...and that will take a while to whiten.

think about how pretty your smile will look AFTER THE BRACES!!! had them 30 years ago... times have changed, but the prices havent . they are expensive, and if your parents are willing to make you more beautiful than you probably already are, go for it! the orthodontist will get you on the right track, theyre not that bad.. just a little weird at first, but theyve come a long way since ive had them!!! youll be fine!!! go for it girl!!! youll be beautiful!!! just remember... TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOUR TEETH...!

well...they do hurt at first for like a week or so....just getting used to them..
they hurt when you get them tightened too for a couple days...
and of course there are eating restrictions that you WANT TO FOLLOW unless you want your braces on longer!
you'll be fine. tylenol will solve all braces problems :)
good luck

They feel very tight, it'll feel weird for a few months before you get used to them. Braces hurt for the first couple weeks, and you won't feel like eating anything other than icecream or oatmeal, stuff like that. Are you going to get rubber bands also?

Can be a bit rough at first, just make sure no wire ends are poking you before you leave the office, take a pain reliever before you go in to get them on...you get use to them...plus the end result is great! Good luck!
