One more time:

The Department of the Navy has two equal branches of services under it:

(1) The United States Navy, and
(2) The United States Marine Corps.

Together they make up the "NAVAL" Component of the Armed Forces. The Marine Corps provides the Landing Forces for this Naval Component. The Navy, obviously, provides the ships. The "Navy" does not own the Marine Corps any more than the Marine Corps owns the Navy. The relationship to each is very clear and the different missions are very distinct and clear as is the separate cultures.

The Common thread is the destruction of America's enemies. Killing is our business, and business is good.

The Marine Corp is actually under the auspices of the Department of the Navy. They both work very closely together. The Marine Corp has its own air force, but all ship handling is done by the Navy. Yes, Navy Corpman (Medical Folks) are Navy, but are both deployed with Naval and Marine Corp Commands.

You may find Marines as guards for flag officers, guarding facilities or ships that my or may not carry nuclear weapons (neither confirmed nor denined) (except onboard Submarines) or nuclear powered vessels.

The Navy and Marine Corp have a separate seat on the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Navy has the Chief of Naval Operations and the Marines have Commandant of the Marine Corp.
