I saw the most beautiful gown on-line the other day and I thought it was the dress of my dreams for my wedding day. Then I realized it wasn't a wedding gown, but a quinceanera gown. Is it wierd for a bride to wear this and do you think I can have it altered to get a train?

Dear, It is YOUR wedding and you should wear what you want. It is irrelevant what the designer calls it - wedding or trail rider. People forget that the 'Wedding Dress' is a very recent idea. Before the last century, a woman was married in whatever was available. She had a big fancy dress only if her family was either royal or very wealthy. I have a friend who married in a black/white/red dress because (altho' it was her first marriage, and quite a lavish affair) her fiance/husband loved the way she looked in it. You do what you want. Others should understand (and keep any other ideas to them-self!) and just be happy for you on your special day.

I work in a bridal shop and many times Quinceanera dresses are very, very similar to popular bridal gown styles. The difference is they don't have a train and come in a variety of colors in addition to white and ivory. It is not strange to wear a Quinceanera dress as a wedding gown. I often have girls buy bridesmaid dresses in white or ivory as wedding gowns. It's your wedding do what you want. No one is going to shout out " she is wearing a quinceanera dress" as you walking down the isle. As far as the train on the dress check and see if the company that makes the dress is able to make changes like adding a train, some companies like Victoria's bridal can. If the company does not do that then you need to get some of the same fabric the dress is made of and go see a local seamstress. If you can't get the fabric, and a train is a must have, take the picture of the dress to bridal shop and see if they have anything similar.

OK it is your wedding but there are also people who attend to it and then photographers to capture your moment. I'm just trying to be realistic here. If the gown REALLY looks like other wedding gowns you saw online, then by all means wear it. If not and you still want it so much, buy the gown and bring it to a tailor see if she could add or lose a few touches that will make it look more like wedding gown. Do the comparison online with real wedding gowns and then consider your budget also.

I think as long as YOU like the dress that is the ONLY thing that matters. It is your wedding day not anyone elses so what they think shouldnt matter either. I see women and hear stories about women wearing prom dresses all of the time so why not a quincenera dress. I dont know about altering a dress to add a train though sorry

No it isnt. Go ahead and buy it. A quinceanera is just like a wedding (except there is no groom). Buy the dress and NO ONE will know that it isnt a wedding gown, unless you tell them.

The dress I wore for my wedding was a Quinceanera dress - nobody knew any different. I loved my dress - and it was a lot cheaper than a wedding dress!

As for a train, I'm sure you could find someone that could alter it and add a detachable train.

If it is the dress you love, go for it!

No, because Quinceanera dresses look like wedding dresses any way. Best wishes.

It sounds a little different, but if it looks like a wedding gown to you, it most likely will to everyone else, too. Just wear it with a pretty veil, and you'll look gorgous!
