I am losing my teeth. I can feel my gums in the back. Is getting your jaw wired a viable treatment for grinding? Who would do this for me?

I am desperate. I don't want to take medicine. I have taken them and they make me gain weight and feel drugged up. Please help me.

It would, but a better solution would be to get a mouth guard from your dentist. It is like rubber and you put it in your mouth when you sleep, it goes in between your teeth so you can't grind them....also try less caffeine a night and relaxing before bed...a sleep aid may put you in a deeper sleep...keep trying them till you find one that's right for you...good luck!

Don't they wore your jaw to where there is a space so your teeth don't occlude? I would think that if your teeth don't meet that would stop the grinding but do you want your jaw wired at all times? I would suggest going to your dentist and asking about a night guard and possibly adjusting your occlusion.

I have had my jaw wired shut, due to a broke jaw this is not something I recommend. Beside the fact that you cant eat anything solid, It really hurts having it wired shut , Imagine flossing with bailing wire. I wish I had an answer for your problem but, I think Id reccomend some other alternative

Get the "Doctor's Night Guard" (available at Walgreens, CVS, RiteAid and others). It's a rubber-like appliance custome made to your mouth that you put in at bedtime, so you can unconsciously run your jaw all night without further damage.

If it's a habit during the day, keep it in as long as work or errands permit.
