I was thinking that the other day.. and originally I thought, since you're chewing.. maybe that triggers something in your brain to make you feel more full, by associating chewing with eating... but from experience, it does take your mind off your hunger... so sometimes when I'm hungry I'll pop a couple peices of gum.

False. Gum chewing will burn calories, your mouth will make more saliva that is made to break down food. So gum chewing will make U hungry.

It always makes me feel full so i chew gum when im hungry. I agree with the first answer that maybe it triggers something in our brain. I think that since our mind is trained to chew then swallow to feel full, that the chewing and swallowing our saliva makes it think were full. Ive also noticed that when i spit out my gum, i realize im very hungry...

For a while, it does - the chewing motion makes your body think you're eating. If you don't use sugar-free, it works even better because there's actually some energy coming in.
But it's not healthy to do this in the long run, plus it only works up to a point - sooner or later your body realizes it needs *real* food.

No, and it doesn't help me with smoking either! I'll chew gum and smoke at the same time. No effect what so ever, I love gum though!
