How much parents pry might be directly related to how honest you have been up to this point. A teen caught in many lies will be less trusted and more likely to have their privacy invaded. A teen who has been honest and straight-forward will be trusted to a greter degree and may find their parents need to snoop less or not at all....

If you would like to no long term effects on this...let me tell you I don't speak to my mother about anything personal anymore. She broke that trust and won't get it back. Teens are gonna get into things...thats how they learn. You just pray that they don't get hurt because if they want to do it...they're going to. Whether you ground them or not...they'll find a way. So maybe you should let your teen know that your there if they want to talk..don't get angry if they do tell you something you don't like...it's a part of life and that's what they're doing..living..maybe not the choices you like but its their choices. Give them respect and they'll respect you in the long run. As for the internet...that's completely different...you need to watch that in this world..to many sick people out there and teens are looking to fit in.

I have 5 grown happily married military brats and we lived in close quarters and I was a stay at home Mom and I kept up with my children and taught them right from wrong. I kept my eyes & ears wide open and we had rules that where obeyed. None of them smoked or drank or did drugs. They all finished school and have careers today. We feel like we gave them good roots and then we gave them wings to fly and Dad and I are prowd~~Jill
No need to spy when you do all that & the kids can be trusted ~~

I have two daughters 17 & 30 Love them bery much, and will blame myself if somthing would hapen to them, that is why i check on them when i see somthing that may go wrong. Not because i like to be nousey. If I see that evrything they do is going OK I try to give them some space. I think u shoud be happy that ur parents care for u. If u r not douing anithing to be a shame of. Let them Check as much as they want

Yep. Always best to know everything that is going on. I only intervene if it is absolutely necessary. I'm 40, I'm not stupid. I know everything I did as a teenager. My parents were so naive.
I don't tape or listen to phone calls. I read diaries and go through pockets and furniture and other hiding places. I do not expect to find anything just taking precautions.

yeah. I'm so sick of my mom getting into my business that I'm in the process of moving out. i can see if I was out doing grugs or having sex with random people, but I'm not. I'm the only one out of all her kids who is actually trying to become someone successful and it seems like everything i do is never good enough. if parents want to know whats going on in their child's life, they need to talk to them, not yell, but talk. The child may not be ready to say anything, but that doesn't give them the right to go through their things. Doing this makes the child loose trust and respect for the parent.

I think you should monitor your teens, not to that extent though. I think it will just make your child despise the parent more and more each time they do it. Let them make their mistakes and learn from them. Without mistakes people do not learn. Curfew should be in effect, and just keeping your teen in order, and being a positive role model should do. Keep track of the friends, they can be bad influences.

Yes but to a limit. I have a right to parent my child and keep them safe! But I don't totally invade everything about their life! They are humans after all too!
